At this time how far is Iowa above a mid-major? I am not trying to be a wise guy but maybe seeing a bit of reality.Sorry, but there is no reason to hire Gatens as the next head coach, at this point in his career. None. At all.
Let him earn his chops at a mid-major first - at the very least - and then maybe when the job reopens years down the road we can revisit looking at him.
Gatens has zero HC experience. Stop with this.
I love Gatens but we have to have an experienced coach who can bring the type of athletes to Iowa city that will make a difference. Your solution is perfect. I love it. We can’t have a coach otJ-ing it. And I want somebody outside of Iowa sphere. Here are a few I would love to see who fit the recruiting/ coaching sphere. It’s an idea. Not sure it fits the competencies for the challenge at IOWA. The solution would be a candidate that has solidified coaching experience and systems to immediately execute, because the other half of the challenge is to become the face of the program with donors, fans, the sports media, and potential recruits. Gatens would be OTJ-ing it all, compared to many, current options.
That is a wild idea. But, Matt could bring Fran in as an assistant. Fran has head coaching experience and can tutor Matt.
Oh for Pete’s sake. Iowa is nowhere near mid-major level. At this time how far is Iowa above a mid-major? I am not trying to be a wise guy but maybe seeing a bit of reality.
