Time to get rid of the riding point. Also 2 points if you initiate takedown and only 1 if take down is scored on counter move.

184lbs match between Old Dominion's Jack Dechow (4) vs Edinboro's Victor Avery (13). I tune into ESPN U when I finally get home. We are in the 2nd OT in the tiebreaker rounds. Should be exciting. Both guys escape but Avery wins on 11 seconds of riding time advantage. Dechow got pushed out several times in a row allowing Avery to accumulate time. When Dechow got out he attempts to shoot but Avery essentially flees the mat and back away only earning a stalling caution.

All I can say is expected and sad:
1. Late stall call with no effect on the match
2. OT should be exciting but wrestlers not shooting to win
3. Fleeing the mat not called
4. Push out from the top guy not called
5. Settling an match on RT.

I am the only one at my office that has the matches on while working. A few rubber neckers stopped by to see what I was watching. Some stayed and watched a bout or two but most would just say how can you watch that boring stuff. I tried to explain that some of the match ups were so even that the action is very subtle. They were not buying it. Unless you have at least been around the sport or participated it's hard for others to get it. Now if two guys were going at it and not just lying there it would be much, much different.

One of the best things our sport has is a wide range of participation. I am not sure how many schools/states are represented but this is the best opportunity for exposure. At least call stalling while we have all of these eyes across the nation. We also need super stars. Ruth, Taylor, Dake and alike help the popularity with the young kids. When Coleman Scott won his last title he was signing autographs for the kids (my son included) and he was like a rock star in that environment. It seems like their is momentum and some smarter people are starting to step up. Having someone like Baldwin walking around interviewing is good for exposure.

Good luck to your Hawks - Huge Tom Brands fan. My son sparred with Mike Evans when he was a freshman at Iron Eagle mat club.

IF they truly want to grow to sport or even maintain it, the official must facilitate ACTION. Once wrestlers start getting dinged, they will of course step up and force the action.

Tonight and tomorrow are big for the sport. Will the officials do their part? I would imagine most fans, both casual and hardcore alike, would rather see a wide-open match even if the score was not close at the end rather than these 1-1 stall-fiestas.

The stalling compilation thread. Many good ideas, some implemented this year--who's reading this stuff?

I hope the stalling is actively and vigorously enforced during the Tourny Season. As someone in the thread commented, "...this is when our sport has the most eyes on it....it woul be nice to see action rewarded by the officials."
