The tax returns are here! The tax returns are here!

The Senate cannot initiate any new tax laws to address it. That is the responsibility of the House of Representatives
Can the general public initiate any new tax laws to address it? Because if not then your point is moot.

The Ways and Means Committee didn’t request the returns so they can write new tax laws. They requested the returns so they can codify into the law IRS policy that requires additional scrutiny of the President’s returns. The Senate is fully capable of doing that.

Can the general public initiate any new tax laws to address it?

You mean "We The People", pressuring our representatives to act?
And deciding to elect ones that will, if the ones in office fail to do so?

Did you really need to post this, Cletus?

Sure they did.

To identify how people like Trump are gaming the system AND to prevent this from happening again (where a President is allowed to enrich himself while in office, putting his own personal wealth before the interests of the United States and the people)

I've learned two brand new things from this release. Trump has bank accounts in China and he lied about donating his salary. Both are major red flags the public deserves to know.
The Chinese bank accounts was made public in 2020. NYT investigated it. More than likely discussed on HROT at the time

Once again, Trump publicly and repeatedly pledged to release his taxes post-audit. That has been done.

“If I decide to run for office, I’ll produce my tax returns. Absolutely. I would love to do that,”
Trump May 2014

“I want to tell you right now I have no problem with giving my tax returns,”
Trump April 2015

There’s no issue here.

“For many years, I’ve been audited every year. Twelve years, or something like that. Every year, they audit me, audit me, audit me. I will absolutely give my return, but I’m being audited now for two or three years, so I can’t do it until the audit is finished. Obviously.”
Trump February 2016

I am not sure what is more pathetic - that the same 6 posters filled up 9 pages rewording the same drivel over and over again - or that I read through all of it thinking that at some pont I would find a thought not included in the first 6 posts.

That’s fantastic logic.

“Well, he said he was going to release them. Since he didn’t follow through on that promise, it’s perfectly okay for us to break the law and release his returns without his consent.”

So it’s to help their fellow Democrats win elections, then. Thank you for confirming that this was strictly political and served no legal imperative.

He gave his consent…multiple times.

How exactly does that work? Democratic candidates have all released their tax returns post-Watergate. As have all Republican candidates. How does the release of THESE tax returns “help…Democrats win elections”?

The level of stupid from you grows each and every time. He followed tax laws that everyone in his position follow you moron. It's not gaming. Everyone of those asshats in Congress are or would be doing the same thing. Your fearless leader, FJB, opened S Corps to evade taxes why aren't we seeing those? This enrichment argument is beyond stupid as well.

This was always going to be a nothing burger. If he wasn't doing things right, the IRS would have already been fining him through the nose. You libtards are idiots.

I’m still waiting for someone - anyone - to provide a reasonable explanation for why making them public was an integral part of evaluating the presidential audit process.
Would that evaluation have included an accounting as to how this POTUS abused the system?

And how would THAT work given that the IRS was simply rubber-stamping his returns without asking for any documentation?

Consent? He never gave consent to Congress to release his returns. Where in your quotes does he consent to do that? He said HE would release them, which is not consent for anyone else to do so. The precedent set with this SC decision isn't a good one.

By the House Ways and Means Committee? Yes.

By the Senate Finance Committee? Also yes.

By the US Congress Joint Committee on Taxation? Again, yes.

By the general public? Not so much.

He followed tax laws? I'm trying to think how on earth someone after the last 6 or 7 years of a twice impeached lying president could actually believe that. You need to open your eyes and your ears and be patient.

Oh please tell me where he didn't follow them? I'm sure you have the evidence to back this up after his returns have been released! WOW!

No, he didn't.

And it's why his right hand man is going to prison for tax fraud. And why the NY AG found his organization guilty of tax fraud.

The Trump Organization was found guilty of: Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Tax Fraud in the Third Degree, Criminal Tax Fraud in the Fourth Degree, and Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG), under Attorney General James, worked closely with the Manhattan District Attorney’s (DA) Office to investigate and uncover a scheme employed by the Trump Organization to avoid paying taxes. In July 2021, the Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation and the Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Allen Weisselberg were indicted for their roles in this tax scheme. Mr. Weisselberg pled guilty to the charges in August 2022.

The report very clearly stated the Joint Committee on Taxation "did not have any investigatory powers." On page 1, the committee states: "we express no opinion regarding whether any adjustment, or increase or decrease in tax, would have resulted if these issues had been pursued on examination." This message is repeated throughout the nearly 40-page document.

The Senate still has investigatory powers, yes?

Democrats still control the Senate, yes?

My point stands.
