Last Friday night I took in the Reed Nikko (former Iowa recruit - Missouri commit) and #6 Maple Grove win over Theo John and #4 Champlin Park. Both of the big men did not have many points and it was pretty physical down low - 6'10" Reed had 12 and 6'9" Theo had 10. Reed had 2 or 3 dunks including a nice alleyoop and I don't recall Theo having any. Theo was in foul trouble in the first half, which was a problem for him last year in the few of their games I saw. He reaches too much, but he will probably grow out of that habit. He and Reed are the premier shot blockers in the state so there weren't a ton of passes inside and the shots either of them took were highly contested. Both kids are great rebounders so that was fun to watch down low, and their arms got pretty locked up multiple times. Last I heard Theo still listed Iowa in his top 5 but I'm not sure where he fits in with Iowa's wish list for the class of 2017.

PG Brad Davison had 26 for MG, who has been playing for a few weeks without leading scorer Tywhon Pickford who had a season ending knee injury. Champlin's stud guard McKinley Wright had 20 points and played great defense. Incredible tidbit - Brad is already the career leader for his school in points, assists, and steals...as a junior. And during the basketball offseason as a Sophomore and Junior he quarterbacked MG football to back-to-back state semifinals. Will be interesting to see where this great team leader ends up in college - pretty sure he will be playing hoops but who knows.
