There for the tanking: Embrace the White Sox' pursuit of being the worst team in MLB history

All he’ll have to do is present the roster he was given and the other organization will nod and say, “Oh, right, that’s terrible.”

Sure, to some extent, they were never going to be great. And there's been plenty of injuries, but their payroll is right in the middle and several players who have/had potential and not just no name placeholders. We're not talking about managing a team that finishes a close last in the league. They are competing for worst record in the modern era, with losing streaks of 14, 21 and other notorious streaks. Can't blame it all on the roster.

Oh, don’t take my comment as a defense of Grifol….but I’ve seen social media commentary today about how this is a move that will motivate the team and make the front office look better. There’s no redeeming any of this. If I was a Sox fan, I’d want to kill all of it with fire.

Most of these can be explained by general and pervasive ineptitude across the Sox organization, for decades.
It's been 3 years since they won 90 games, right? They should have been well positioned for a good run with their core.

Yeah, but neither the team or individual players got better. I listen to a few games on the MLB app and you could hear the frustration over a lack of hustle and poor fundamentals. Even with less than talented players you can get some hustle and know which freaking base to throw to, or get the players to know how many outs there are in an inning. Most of that is Luis Roberts, however.

Also, awful timing for them to be this bad under the new CBA vs. the old one. Under the old rules, the Sox would be coasting into the #1 overall pick. Under the new rules, because they picked in the top 6 this year (#5), the best they can do is pick #10. All subsequent rounds, they’ll pick first.

Congrats on loss #100

That's a real team effort with dedication from all, top to bottom in the organization to pull that off

Great trade that Kopech, Fedde, and Pham for Vargas deal was. You take the guy LA doesn't want because your assistant hitting coach, that you've since fired, wanted him because he signed him to play for the Dodgers. He's hitting .088 for the Sox now

Hey now..sox lead the mighty tigers 2-0 after three innings...can they claim a third of a win?

Sox locked up in a 3-3 tie in 8th vs world champion Texas Rangers.
They battling.

Tommy Pham hits a grand slam in his first AB after returning to the Cardinals from the hapless Sox. Three more hits and 2 RBIs as the Cardinals crush the defending WS champion Texas Rangers for the second day in a row, 10-1. Sox even threw in their best pitcher Erick Fedde. Cards front office outmaneuvers the Sox again...

Sox have now gone 4-37 in last 41 games. That a quarter of a season with 4 wins...a. Pace of 16-146 for a full season. Yikes.

Watching the CWS is brutal. Outside of Sheets, not sure there's a legitimate long term major leaguer on the roster.
They. Can’t. Draft. They bomb on almost every single first rounder since the early 90s. Now they get screwed by this tanking rule and don’t get the first pick. They need to move to Nashville.

I tune in just to watch the post game show with Ozzie and the other guy.

They aren't pulling punches.

I was sitting there watching them in person yesterday and tv doesn't really do this team justice. Flexen was throwing softer than any pitcher that's been in Baltimore this year. Benintendi hit a popup and I watched him slowly trot down to first and make a turn back towards the dugout before the ball was even caught and never broke stride with his jog - just one easy jog from home back to the dugout. Lopez, Amaya, and Vargas were standing in the infield waiting to warmup and Sheets just didn't come out until the catcher made his throw to second - so no warmup for the infield.
