Evidently Paramount Pictures is remaking the entire Godfather trilogy, and Johnny Depp is slated to play Vito Corleone. Part I to be released next year. Part II in 2018 and Part III in 2020.
People get so bent out of shape about this stuff. Just don't go see it. Aren't most gangster movies just Godfather knockoffs anyways?
Depp in a serious role always gets me to watch. Will be excited depending on the rest of the cast. Maybe bring back some people from the original - love it
I just get a kick out of how there is no originality anymore.
There are literally hundreds of thousands of books out there, start reading..... once you find something interesting make a screenplay and adapt.

It's completely understandable on their part. People will pay to watch this. And the next two if they do a decent enough job. But I still react with a Dave-Attell-cadence "WHYYYYYY?"This I understand and it used to really bug me (especially after I watched a great original flick). But after you see the success of the remakes it's hard to say I wouldn't do the same thing if I was running a studio
The thing about the original is that it wasn't all blood and gore. They did the little stuff as well as any film did. I offer the below as an example...
It's going to be set in 2016 not 1946! Wow this not going to be good

Completely different movie in that case. There's very little in the original that works in a world 70 years older. Heck, you have to throw out the scene Soy posted...what would a 2016 Don Corleone refuse to get involved in?

First, I am fully willing to admit that the Godfather (and part 2) is a work of art.
However, I never really liked watching it. I've always thought it was a bit boring. I've tried watching numerous times since I saw it the first time, probably around '83 or so (I was 14). I can never make it all the way through it, I have to find something else to watch.
