This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

How do you guys feel about Ukraines current position? The thread seems obviously skewed to the positive Ukraine news so I’m not sure what to make of it.

This is my take. I think Kharkiv is pretty well surrounded, and Kyiv is getting there, but it's been slow getting to Kyiv.

I think the Russians have, because of Ukrainian resistance, poor fighting, ability to resupply, etc, decided that they can't just take the cities by ground force. They made very little progress trying to enter by force the first couple nights they'd tried. It seems like last night, they tried different tactics, lighter incursions into the city...but its unclear what their purpose even was, although in Kyiv it might have been to try to find Yelinsky.

I think they're shifting to a bombardment strategy, I think they have decided they can't take these cities like this. I think they're going to start bombing the shit out of Kharkiv (started today) and Kyiv and grind them into submission before trying to take the city.

On the positive, I think that means a while before Kyiv in particular "falls". I don't think it's a matter of seeing if they can hold each night any more. Its going to require more time for Russia to "win", which is more time to supply Ukraine, and more time for economic sanctions to squeeze.

On the very, very negative side, its going to result in mass destruction and civilian death. An absolute disaster.

I'm not sure what happens with that...it could potentially settle in like that for a horrifying long while.

Honestly, seeing how bold Western countries have become, I'm not sure you won't see more direct military assistance and getting very, very close to the line of fighting on behalf of Ukraine. We watch protests in Russia, but there are demonstrations all over the world in their support. If Ukraine is getting annihilated for a month or two, requests for things like a no fly zone that are not being seriously considered now are going to become very potent.

Looks like they just signed an application to join NATO. If accepted then NATO troops can come help. I am not sure of how this process goes but hopefully it is quick and Ukraine is in a fantastic position.

Now let’s say that happens within the week, I am extremely worried on what Putin might do but honestly we are at a point where the whole world hates him so no better time than now to leverage this and make the EUs defenses stronger.
Not that I know anything, but I would imagine that it would allow NATO forces to participate in the defense of Ukraine, but they would not be able to fight inside Russia. That's the way I would interpret it anyway. I imagine Putin would have a different perspective.

It was to the EU

From your own link -

While many analysts credit Trump with putting pressure on allies to do more, the idea he singularly is responsible for increased spending is not accurate, they say.

So he does deserve some credit, just not all of it. I’m not a Trump fan, just believe in giving credit where it’s due. Very glad Biden is President the last few weeks. This is why I voted for him.

Either he will be listened to or will catch the dead.

"Key Putin ally" and "bloodthirsty" being in the same sentence/paragraph kinda goes without saying, doesn't it?

Putin and all his allies deserve catching the dead, in the most horrible and painful ways possible.

I'm concerned with what they do when they realize they dont have as much fuel as they thought and the little bombs are not having the desired impact.

This is a conversation about ehat is currently happening in Ukraine. If you want to talk about Natos response I don't think anyone would complain. Pisspants bring Trump in every chance he gets is not needed and has been directly requested to GTFO.
If you ignored him the same way you’ve ignored every fact about what brought us to this point, the thread would be better. You’re king of the pissy pants here.
