This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

No more political posts in this thread, please.

TIA.
She describes it in her linked interview, bud.

Maybe those are "uncomfortable" facts, but they are facts, nonetheless. And to deal with Putin, we MUST deal with those facts AND those individuals who are enablers and repeat the propaganda.

Yes. But far better than what the Ukrainians have sitting around correct?
That very well could be. Fair chance they've had some off-label upgrades over time. Question is, would it be in the native languages of those countries? My guess would be yes. English would be perfect, as I would imagine the average Ukrainian fighter pilot is educated and might "sprechen".

Hell, just put post-it notes on the new buttons ;)

Anyone buying into this new thought process that Russia thought Ukraine would surrender almost immediately and sent in their oldest equipment and conscript troops as to not waste quality? Now that that plan has failed, they will reorganize with their better equipment and more experienced troops. Based on the looks of some of the equipment and terrible execution of a battle plan, it almost makes sense. However, I can also see it's Russian misinformation trying to cause fear and keep morale high in the homeland.
No, they went in with paratroopers, spetnaz, guards, etc., the very best, equal to NATO. But they also had a lot of regular units, which are just far below Western standards. And COMPLETELY unmotivated. They just can't afford that many really top notch Western quality forces. That's why they've gone both begging for Chechens, Wagner Group mercs, and Belarussians, and bringing up mass artillery/fuel bomb units.

But I don't see how it's going to work. Putin sold this war as liberating/reuniting with Ukraine. And now Russian soldiers are going to be asked to vaporize them, and turn historic Russian cities like Kyiv and Kharkhiv into flattened wastelands like Aleppo and Grozny. How can that work?

So you want to punish Obama for giving him Crimea? Otherwise quit your stupid posts in this thread and leave your ridiculous bias at the door. We are actually trying to have a decent thread about the events going on in Ukraine and elsewhere impacted by this horrible Russian action.

Hope the first part is accurate. Hope the 2nd part isn't.

Possible, but awfully arrogant. This wasn't taking a small little state off the map.
Putin might have believed his own lies and thought the Ukrainians would welcome the Russians in with open arms, or that his invasion would trigger an insurrection against the Ukrainian government. It also looks like the Russians thought they could make Thunder Runs, like the US did in Baghdad, and take over that way. Of course, the dead columns of Russian equipment tell us that didn't work.

Similar to Hitler had gotten so many victories under his belt. Felt he was unfalliable. As opposed to his success being a mixture of good fortune and appeasement

I was laughing at the fact that I have now taken multiple several hour breaks today and each time I come back there is someone telling you to keep your pisspants politics out of the thread.

Speaking of facts, aren't you the covid crazy that got a thread shutdown for spreading false information?

A great book that was made into a series on HBO called Generation Kill was about Marine's 1st Recon during the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. It was really amazing and showed how much of a cluster F it was from leadership within the battalion. And in the end, it was an incredibly successful battalion.

Now if you spin that to Russia and the tech they got (which is probably far inferior to what the US had almost 20 years ago), and the opposition compared to a disoriented Iraq army, I can imagine the chaos that is going on. Not to mention Putin's expectations.

THIS is what Fiona Hill is referring to. And this is coming from a former Republican strategist.

What's happening in Ukraine currently is a mess and we all need to work together to help fix it. But we CANNOT turn our back on the attitudes and the people who led us here.

Steve Schmidt is no "liberal Democrat"; he's simply a conservative who "woke up and smelled the coffee" quite a while ago, and has been willing to speak out about it.

Quit kowtowing to the @Whiskeydeltadeltatango 's of the board who cannot figure it out and will probably never figure it out. Because they're the reason things are so F***ed up right now.

EL OH EL.
You respond to every one of these. You don’t have to. This thread would be way more awesome without your taking things so personally and pissing your pants. Do you have what, 20 posts? 25 posts just pissing down your leg crying about your heroes being criticized in this thread? Just ignore people that hurt your feelings.

Piss pants.
