This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

This is what I don't understand. We see all of these videos of columns of Russian equipment being decimated; yet, this one hasn't seemed to been touched yet.

Putin might have believed his own lies and thought the Ukrainians would welcome the Russians in with open arms, or that his invasion would trigger an insurrection against the Ukrainian government. It also looks like the Russians thought they could make Thunder Runs, like the US did in Baghdad, and take over that way. Of course, the dead columns of Russian equipment tell us that didn't work.

#1 They're not fighting against Iraqi's but a European nation with modern equipment and a stronger desire to defend their homeland against an ancient enemy

#2 The Russians don't seem to be as well-trained in many aspects as the US troops were, weren't as better equipped and obviously lack the air superiority the American ground forces did as well. I don't recall Iraqi's having such advanced drones either. I could be wrong though

There is absolutely no reason that 40 (used to be 17) mile convoy should not be completely annihilated. Now. Game over. I mean it. Drone and missile strikes non - stop. Seriously, it would be game over.
May be very well defended and so far Ukraine can't get to it. (Russia can't be inept all the time?)

This thread is amazing and addicting. Like others have said, it’s the best source for news on the war in Ukraine. But, I have to ask, do any of you people have jobs? It‘s insane how many of you post all day/night.
I am utterly surprised by this thread. Besides a few assholes on both sides injecting political nonsense into it this thread it is fabulous. I have given @gonegolfing more likes in this thread than I have given in any thread/post he has ever posted in.

Well done gentlemen/gentlewoman.

I’ve watched and listened to the networks a few times over the last few days and it’s stuff I’ve seen on here hours before, or shots from rooftops talking for 30 minutes about possible strikes 20 miles away. So much better to see all this stuff coming in real time, even if some of it is inaccurate.

I think there are 2 possibilities. Ukraine doesn't have the resources or possibly the Russians are taking the cheese so to speak.
Unfortunately I think the former may be more likely but I'm trying to convince myself of the latter. For the latter to work there would have to be a lot of trust in intelligence. The Ukrainians would have had to be disciplined in baiting the Russians and allowing them to think they were lacking resources and this would have assumed risk and losses in order to be convincing. But Russians haven't been willing to commit if you could frustrate the Russians draw them out get them to take the trap then you could land a devastating blow. Might be wishful thinking.

Maybe the Ukrainians have expended a lot of their ability to do that. I would assume that resupply would not be instantaneous. I have no military experience, so just speculation on my part.

Asked my nephew the same question today.
Background - master sargent, 2 tours bagram, 1 romania/ukraine, 1 central command kuwait, etc,etc.
His thinking - cat/mouse.
Russians waiting for three things - roads( fields not frozen impacting) not in control , the negotiations, and air cover problems. They also
His prediction - bombing for 1-2 days. They don’t want to shell their own troops.
He also thinks the survival rate of anyone in that convoy is about 10%. They are doomed.
Hope so.

Great thread, staggering events. Question for anybody with expertise. What the hell is is a “thermobaric” weapon? Supposedly the Russians are working to get these into Kiev, maybe as early as tonight.
