This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Another well-written update from P. O'Brien

The ROI for Putin's push on Andiivka has been miserable. As far as the ATACMS rockets, too few and too slow. I now part of the reason was we didn't want to deplete our stock, and we didn't send ones just past their use by date. Meh. US made stuff is pretty reliable. Ship them over and give the Russians something to worry about

Bush W signed a law requiring us to destroy weapons once they reached a 1% failure rate (due to age). Supposedly this was to protect collateral/civilian casualties, but the word was it was pushed by defense corporations to force us to keep feeding the military industrial complex even in peacetime.

Something on these numbers.

I looked up Russia's military numbers at the start of the war...this CNN article breaks it down pretty nicely.

It show's Russia with 15,857 Armored Fighting Vehicles. MBT's / APV's.

If the Kyiv independent numbers are to be believed 14,552 have been destroyed.

Have a hard time believing the Kyiv independent numbers are accurate...

Who knows? Initial info could have been wrong. Could have acquired MBTS/APCs during the war. Could have resuscitated previously inoperable non-functioning old shit. Could have manufactured new stuff. Or, the Kiev independent could be wrong.
I think on the Kiev independent side there's probably some double counting and not accounting for AFV's recovered and repaired.

During WW2 German AFV losses were vastly over counted because the germans were very good at recovering and repairing their AFV's.

Just saying if those numbers were on point the Russians would have collapsed by now IMO...

I have always been in the divide by 2 or 3 camp For most personnel and equipment numbers. I think the planes/helicopters are likely more accurate as those seem to accompany video evidence.

FWIW here is the Oryx group estimates for destroyed Russian equipment.

Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The Russian Invasion Of Ukraine

Oryx Thursday, February 24, 2022 DNR , Donbass 0 Comments

By Jakub Janovsky, naalsio26, Aloha, Dan, Stijn Mitzer, Joost Oliemans and Kemal

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

Our list showing destroyed and captured Ukrainian vehicles and equipment can be found here.

Russia - 12772, of which: destroyed: 8836, damaged: 547, abandoned: 490, captured: 2899
