US forces need a standard ammo compatible w/ regular M16s which sends out a spray of buckshot like a shotgun.
Just a few shots toward a drone would take out one propeller and neutralize it, instantly.
Switch magazines, and you've got regular bullets, again.

Wouldn't work well. 5.56 ammo is tiny and it comes out of a tiny, rifled barrel. The barrels wouldn't even accommodate a single buck shot pellet. Shotguns have large bores, smooth barrels, and chokes to control the size of the spread.

And, you do not need standard "pellet shot".
You simply need a munition that fragments into small pieces within a few ms after it leaves the rifle, creating a 1-3m "spread" at distances a few hundred feet from the firing point. That would mean a handful (at most) of shots would take down a drone easily.
These would not be troop-lethal rounds; simply designed to take out 1 rotor on a quad drone, rendering it incapable of flying.

FWIW-100 APCs were promised last July. But then Bulgaria asked NATO to pay for transport which may have been the reason for the delay.
