Ukraine is claiming Russia is about to open a new offensive (my guess Kharkiv) and it would fit to blame Ukraine. Not saying the Russians did this but a widening of the effort is to be expected.
Honestly I don't know how you trust anyone except that someone (s) seem hell bent on ww3. Gets personal when you know people. A friend's father was manager at the Bolshoi Ballet during that attack. Most people around the world are pretty much the same. Decent people, no control.
As you watch the videos remember the GDP of Russia is $17k and Ukraine is $5.5k. Struggling people trying to survive. Decisions made way above their ability to control.

US/Biden learning our ability to dictate restraint to Ukraine has dried up almost as fast as our military aid.
I think that was Russian disinfo and never happened. Hitting refineries for local Russian consumers is not driving crude oil prices up
Honest question, what can Russia do to Japan at this time? They've stripped their forces in the Far East to throw into the meat grinder that is Ukraine.

Give them the weapons they need, and perhaps they'll refrain from hitting so many refineries.
They cannot continue BAU currently w/o running out of men and resources.
Saudis can easily make up the diff.

After taking out the refineries, look for the Ukrainians to go after the pipelines, and then turn their naval drones on the oil tankers crossing the southern Black Sea carrying Russian crude daily.
Those tankers bring in 30% of Russia's annual GDP. Start hitting those the way they hit Russia's BS fleet and things get really interesting.
You really believe that. Next thing you know the Krauts will be hitting the bridgevto Crimea and the Ukrainians will blow up undersea pipelines all by themselves.

USSR / Russia have been threatening nuclear armageddon for 70 years as a threat tactic.
Remember the nuke threat if Sweden and Finland joined NATO? Or if US supplied HIMARS to Ukraine? Or or or or….
No one knows if Russia’s nukes are even functional.
First, the Soviets never threatened nukes very much. That is a myth. They did in 73 and Kissenger got the Israelis to stop the advance into Egypt.
The US is about the only nation that saw the Cuban Missile Crisis as a one sided US victory. The Soviets really wanted the US to pull back from nuke missiles in Turkey.... and we did but Americans don't talk about that much.
The Soviet military in the cold war was big enough and strong enough that they were never really threatened by US/NATO non-nuclear forces. What people fail to realize is that Russia is not a threat to most European nations. The Russians truly feel the US/West is trying to take down their economy (which they have a case for but most people are blind to that). Putin does have the power to make US/West air superiority less of a threat (without 5th Gen but we really don't know how 5th gen will perform), but other than that his best hope is a stalemated ground war with volumes of tanks/arty over manpower.
He only has one real hope... nukes. If someone is going to kill you are you going to negotiate? Pull out a pocket knife? Or be like Indiana Jones when he shoots the sword fighter?
The whole situation is insane. Putin without China would never have the power to conquer NATO or any NATO nations. That isn't happening anytime soon. Russia like Putin is dying and old.
I don't think most realize how bad the UA military was at the start of the war. Putin is a threat to use nukes. He doesn't care. How successful that would be? No idea and neither does anyone on this board.
What does seem accurate is that someone (s) on the side of the west almost seems to want WW3.
Two jokes among Ukrainians stick in my head.
1. The US wants to fight Ukraine to the last Ukrainian. (That comes from WW2 when we had the resources to take Berlin but let the Germans and Soviets kill each other).
2. Soon there is going to be big trouble on the Swedish/Chinese border.
The Soviets actually prepared for nuclear war. Kyiv's subway system is really deep and designed as a nuke bomb shelter. Many cities in the downtown areas have underground shopping (and a means for pedestrians to cross traffic without going through stoplights) that are also bomb shelters. Ukraine was hit really hard in WW2.
Kyiv is a beautiful city on the outside. I could rent luxury apartments for less than hotels and less than average hotels in the US on a nightly basis. When you go into average Joe apartments, you realize how poor the country really is. In the rural areas it really shows.
Schools in the rural areas still have cold war era posters that basically say what to do if the US attacks. Their equivalent to Duck and Cover.
I know our tax dollars were used to destroy a lot of their older arsenal. 60 Minutes, iirc, did a story on it 15-20 years ago.
