Wow. Just wow. This is possibly the most significant daily loss for pootie to date. Those choppers impact close support. The big birds tossing of glide bombs. The radar system and reloads lower stress in theatre.
Only losses of the Moskva or the AWACS birds could be considered as significant strategically.
Hell yes!

"Head of MI5, Ken McCallum, disclosed that European nations have expelled over 400 undeclared Russian intelligence officers since the invasion of Ukraine. Countries like France, Belgium, and Germany have also notably taken significant action. Additionally, the Finnish intelligence and security service SUPO has highlighted the impact of these expulsions. They noted that visa refusals for replacements have weakened Moscow’s intelligence presence in the Nordic region. On 4 April, Politico reported that the Russian SVR and GRU are attempting to rebuild their human espionage networks, particularly focusing on military aid in Ukraine. [Source]

Russia’s espionage activities in Europe have reached unprecedented levels, marked by covert operations and the dissemination of sensitive information, including leaked phone conversations. On 7 March, RUSI reported that the magnitude of Russian infiltration is soaring to Cold War-era levels, with an extensive network penetrating European nations since the Ukrainian invasion [Source]. Despite setbacks in early 2022, Russia’s intelligence agencies have regrouped, employing new tactics such as using proxy actors and recruiting agents with legitimate cover stories."

VIENNA (AP) — Austria faces its biggest espionage scandal in decades as the arrest of a former intelligence officer brings to light evidence of extensive Russian infiltration, lax official oversight and behavior worthy of a spy novel.

Egisto Ott was arrested March 29. The 86-page arrest warrant, obtained by The Associated Press, alleges among other things that he handed over cellphone data of former high-ranking Austrian officials to Russian intelligence, helped plot a burglary at a prominent journalist’s apartment, and wrote up “suggestions for improvement” after a Russian-ordered killing in Germany.

Ott is suspected of having provided sensitive information to Jan Marsalek, a fugitive fellow Austrian wanted on suspicion of fraud since the collapse in 2020 of German payment company Wirecard, where he was the chief operating officer. The warrant says chat messages provided by British authorities link Marsalek directly to the Russian intelligence agency FSB.

Probably should be sent away for life...but since it's Austria he'll probably be on house arrest.

That would seem like an overt act of war against a NATO country on its own soil....

I have to wonder with all these drones bombarding Ukraine, why this was not done earlier.

Washington CNN —

"The United States slapped new sanctions Thursday on 16 people and two entities associated with Iran’s drone program as it looks to punish Tehran for last weekend’s attack on Israel.

The sanctions target executives of an engine manufacturer that supplies Iran’s Shahad-131 drones, which were used in the onslaught, as well as companies that service the engines and individuals associated with providing the drones to Iranian proxy forces throughout the Middle East.

The Treasury Department also said it was punishing five companies associated with Iran’s steel industry and three subsidiaries of an Iranian automaker.

The new sanctions, which were coordinated with European allies, are an effort to cut off supplies to Iran’s missile and drone program and to isolate the country on the global stage.

But they are also a signal to Israel from the United States and its top allies that countering Iran’s latest aggression doesn’t necessarily require a military response."

Russia to Hire Contract Soldiers in Bid to Avoid Unpopular Draft

How hard up do you have to be to sign up to be a mercenary in the Russian military?
Poors will do desperate things. My question is will Russia accept Muslims? Muslim areas are where Russia has a traditional footprint that might facilitate recruitment out of Libya or Syria, maybe the Stans, but do they want them? I don't know they even trust the Chechens all that much, and they are nominally Russian citizens.

According to the Times of India they are...

What an honor!

The Russians call the Vampire Drone bomber the Baba Yaga.

  • Ukraine says its Vampire bomber drone is a nightmare for Russian troops and has an evil nickname.
  • Vampire drones are harder to spot, are fast, and can drop bombs on targets in the dead of night.
  • The domestically produced drones are best for nighttime attacks thanks to thermal imaging.

Edit-not the news it claimed to be.

WAIT! - 6 more need to be found? WTF (Hope I am misreading and this is a total of 13 or so.)

"German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that NATO countries can provide Ukraine with seven Patriot air defense systems, one of them will be transferred by Germany.

"NATO has made it very clear that several systems [Patriot], available in NATO countries, may well represent a solution, as we have done, to provide another system to provide more effective protection against the numerous attacks that Ukraine is currently undergoing. And I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize this call once again. We have heard that now there should be seven more [systems]. One of them is ours, and we hope that six more will be found," Scholz said during a briefing on Thursday.

According to him, Germany has already transferred two Patriot systems to Ukraine and recently announced the transfer of a third, which is "a call for many other similar decisions."

As reported, on April 13, Germany decided to transfer to Ukraine another additional Patriot system and missiles to existing air defense systems."
