This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Is anyone else depressed by this whole situation?

Maybe it's because I went to Ukraine before.

I am depressed.
I’m sad.
War is so pointless. The bravery and spirit of the Ukranians is quite a sight. And in the other side, I’m guessing most troops would rather just be at home.

Putin would not have to change a thing and could live out his years a wealthy, powerful man. But he starts this. For what?

He’s power hungry. Despots don’t think like you described.

Just to be clear, he is not insane. He is drunk with power. Surrounded by yes men, he is not really privy to realities. It’s always how despots get themselves in trouble.

I'm only depressed that it's currently unwise for NATO to enter this directly and hammer Russia into oblivion. Then capture Putin and his minions and force them to stand trial for their atrocities against an innocent country. Roll on, Ukraine! Everyone with a heart is with you.

This. I’m worried despite it all they may get crushed. And it will be tragic

So in more good news, a paratrooper carrying 100s goes down.

A Russian IL76 plane has been shot down close to Kyiv by UAF.

Full capacity of IL76 is 255 soldiers :)

They may get crushed. But, their deaths won't be tragic. Dying for a just cause represents honor, honesty, courage and selflessness. We can all only hope for such a death. They know what they're facing. These are fine, fine hours to them, if that makes any sense.

Russia is going to become an international pariah over this,.. I'm closely watching China to see how long it takes for them to dump their new buddy,.. Nothing yet.
im still way behind perusing this thread (kudos to op and all posters) so my reply might be outdated but if uk is indeed mauling the invaders as posts seem to indicate, forget merely dumping russia, i think chinese opportunism will take a bunch of disputed russian territory with disdain not far in the future

edit: just caught up with 15+ pages in one sitting to learn ukraine’s still in this. my go to place for news on this topic!

This x a million. Based on what the world has seen. The official position of the US government should now be that we will support regime change in Russia. Diplomatically, economically, and militarily if it ever comes to that. Putin must pay at some point. Hopefully by his own people. But the US should do everything in our power to hasten that going forward

Agree but don’t declare it publicly.

I have been impressed by the Ukrainian President. This includes his action of this week and his previous meeting with President Donald Dipshit
He’s a hero for sure.

I wonder if he’ll end up being more impactful in exile if Russia occupies Ukraine. I would assume there’s an extraction plan.

He’ll have the internet and worldwide radio to broadcast encouragement to his countrymen and women.

“Russian Mothership, go **** yourself”
I’m just sick of them thinking they can dictate everything without repercussions…threatening nukes, threatening the space station, now breaking diplomatic relations. I want to see the US start calling them on it. “Fine we’re sending space x up, have your international space station and crash it where you want”

“oh you are going to break off diplomatic relations if we block Putin from traveling?….no problem we can break them off too! Save ya the trouble!”

I think he said he'll stay in Kiev and fight.
Yes he did. But things change. He needs to make the best strategic move. Being a thorn in Puty’s side by representing his country at the UN and very publicly visiting other heads of state (under US Secret Services and Special Forces protection) might well be more impactful.

Putin requesting troops from Kazakhstan(and being denied)….has anyone else seen their opinion of Russia’s competence turn 180 degrees over the past week? I have always thought of them as a legitimate super power….they’re getting pantsed live.

They may very well may still win due to sheer numbers….but this is an embarrassment for them….and it is starting to look to me like Putin severely overplayed his hand….

Why does Putin need/want troops from Kazakhstan? Views them as expendable or something? It’s day 2 and he’s already scrambling for reinforcements?

it’s definitely going to hurt russia’s standing in their relationship w china. putin and xi likely treated each other as equals when this shit began but now one is likely relegated to junior partner

Chesty Puller smiles on the Ukrainians.

Well I’m pretty sure before the call with Xi this morning Russia said no negotiations….then all of the sudden they were open to it. I think you’re right and China may privately be telling them to fix their mess.

Hope Putin loves Mother Russia enough not to start a nuclear war if he flips out. And hope the military has the common sense not to listen to him if he tells them to launch. I agree with all the pressure being put on him but am also a little paranoid it might push him over the edge.
