This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

If this horrific situation were not happening in Ukraine we would be arguing the point just as we did prior to Pooty.
Good thing this isn’t January of 1942, I guess.

When did Russia attack the US? Do you care about what is happening in Yemen for the past several years?

Why does the US want to defend Ukraine's border but not ours with Mexico? Ukraine is very, very corrupt and some people are wanting more US involvement. To what end? Nuclear war?
You could probably post this idiotic thought in an old thread on the border topic.

A few morning observations:
1. The Russian "evacuation corridors" leading to Russia and Belarus are a freaking joke.
2. The Russian "offer" around cease fire is sort of interesting -- basically asking for recognition of Crimea annexation and "independent" eastern territories, and a constitutional amendment around neutrality. Now some of these are likely non-starters, but the fact that the Russians are offering "immediate" cessation both belies the Russians' rationale about de-nazification (if there were real nazi's, by all means, go get them) and also suggests a desire for an exit strategy on their part.

"Give us everything we already had and everything we really wanted...and we'll stop killing you guys."

Given these reports of Russian losses, I think it's safe to say that Biden/NATO are doing a hell of a lot more behind the scenes than what is being publicly announced as far as support to Ukraine.

I truly believe the less they make public is intended to reduce Putin's actions and preparations as far as a response from Russia.

It's real easy to criticize when you don't have all the facts. Just look at the comments from some Merican politicians about "not doing enough". The Intel Committee might be getting updates, but not every member of Congress is.

How many tanks are rolling over the Mexican border? What army do we need to defend ourselves from? How many US troops are defending the Ukraine border.

Here’s your chance for ‘rational discussions’.
The army of illegals crossing the border. The US is defending Ukraine with weapons and a lot of money. About 14000 Russians living in the eastern part of Ukraine have been killed in the past 5 years by Ukraine.

Putin warned them to stop many times but they continued shelling them.

Russia does not want US nuclear weapons on their borders. Do you remember the Cuban missile crisis from the 60's? The US didn't want nukes 90 miles away. The Russians don't either.
.

Perhaps the one silver lining for the horror in Ukraine is it has massively exposed.
Doesn't seem like when it's "exposed" that it accomplishes anything.
People are fully programmed, and it'll take much more than "exposure" to change that.

What's more important, is that it's getting "defunded". But with all the oligarch money out there, the effort to really defund it will not be easy.

Without a doubt we are doing more than we are saying publicly, and per my post above, perhaps the Russians' offer signals that they are having an effect. But I am considerably less sanguine about the latter. To my eye, it "feels" as though some of the social reports in recent days are a little less optimistic on the whole. Moreover, the Russians have shown a historic and current tactical willingness to burn through their forces in a war of attrition, and a current concomitant willingness to use indiscriminate force against civilian populations. And as I have said previously, once they are in occupation, it will be the devil's work to get them out.

An army of illegals? Oh noes! Are the "taco trucks on every corner" actually tanks?

Beat it, clown.

So your opinion is Putin is a benevolent King. The man who will use radiation poisoning in foreign countries. Against those who disagree with him.

Nat disappears (may he RIP in peace) and now we get this guy. I guess the bench for Russian internet trolls is as sparse as their military.

I meant in West Europe and US. I think a lot of the "targeted" folks are starting to really see the light. Even seen some on this board and in my circle of friends and family realizing quietly they have been fed a bunch of pro Russia lies. It won't be all of them, but it will be a lot coming back around to more normalcy and traditional political arguments.

This is a ludicrous take. Not only have propaganda and information always been a part of warfare, the fleeting effects of social media meme-bombs, at the end of the day, are considerably less enduring than the destructive effects of real ones for purposes of gaining and holding territory.

As one who works in the WaPo building, however, it is completely unsurprising that their army of skinny-pants wearing twentysomethings would think that their preferred mode of lazy newsgathering (ie, follow twitter and hop on something somebody else is saying) would be of profound strategic effect. But it will validate their rather soft egos.

(Case in point: the WaPo has removed by-lines from its Ukraine stories, for fear of Russian prosecution. To that, I say: (i) how courageous of you - or as your t-shirts say, "democracy dies in darkness"; and (ii) what chutzpah to think that you'd actually be anything resembling a priority for them right about now.)
