This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Yeah....and anyone who votes "no" in the referendums to "be part of Russia" gets taken out back and shot.

ANY Russian ship operating >20 miles outside Crimea needs to be sunk.
Just do it with NATO resources and deny it.

Free up Odessa for shipments. Russian ships can play in their own (currently) territorial waters - hell, they should sink any that are >20 miles outside Russian waters because Crimea is Ukrainian and they shouldn't even be there.

Sink them all and just deny it.
"Back luck, Ivan".

Russia is terrified Poland is going to enter the war. I still hope they enter west Ukraine to free up more Ukrainians for the other fronts. And I also hope the Western Powers have warned Belarus that they better not get involved or else.
I read this assessment elsewhere, found it both plausible and amusing:

Lukashenko is pursuing a Franco strategy, where sure, he'll join Hitler's crusade against Bolshevism but he simply needs the following materials first to modernize the Spanish army, e.g. an entire year's production of PZIVs and SfH150mm howitzers. Oh, and the entire tungsten supply.

...But in the meantime, if you want to recruit some annoying Spanish fascist wingnuts to spend the winter in the Volkhov swamps, sure, fill yer jackboots mate!

Honest question about the fires inside Russia. Is it likely that these are not sabotage but everyday occurrences due to lack of infrastructure resources and crappy material and workmanship?
I think many are sabotage-those at military related institutions or factories are probably foreign agents but the other random fires could be people against the war taking advantage of buildings with lax security. And some of course are accidental. But there have too many with strategic value and those have to be on purpose IMHO.

What must those calls between Macon and Scholz vs Putin be like-they have to be talking past each other.
'You should exchange prisoners and pull out of Ukraine", then "You should stop supplying weapons to Ukraine."
Otherwise things would (should) get heated with the dictator who started the war and continually threatens the West.
German should still be in good with Putin-unlike France who has supplied heavy artillery, the Germans refuse to send any heavy stuff. Though they keep talking tough and pretending they are sending it.

Just thinking, at this point what does Ukraine have to lose by cutting off Germany from Russian energy. Germany is not a major supplier of arms and has not provided any heavy weapons. But being the major western buyer of Russian fuel, cutting their supply would really hurt Russia. I'm sure they will not do this because of pissing people off but Germany probably deserves it.

More on those deadly rocket launchers Ukraine is said to be receiving. (And thanks again to Steelrain's explanation of how these things work.)

"The wheeled HIMARS is more mobile than a towed howitzer. Where a skilled M777 crew might shoot five rounds a minute out to 19 miles, a HIMARS crew can fire six rockets in just a few seconds out to a distance of between 20 and 40 miles, depending on the exact ammo type. There are guided and unguided rockets.

Because it can shoot a lot, fast and potentially a long distance, a HIMARS is ideal for counterbattery. The crew can drive away before the enemy has a chance to shoot back with its own countercounterbattery fire.

It’s unclear how many HIMARS the U.S. government might give to Ukraine, and how quickly. The Army has 375 HIMARS. The Marine Corps has 40. The president through his “drawdown” authority can take launchers from the Army and Marines and give them to Ukraine.

The more HIMARS Ukraine gets, the fewer the United States has ... until Lockheed Martin makes more. Lockheed builds around 30 HIMARS annually. If the Pentagon is willing to accept modest risk for a year, then 30 might be the right number of launchers to give away."

So long as Russia is targeting Ukrainian cities with armaments from INSIDE its borders, Ukraine can be expected to, and should, reply in kind with any and all armaments provided to it (and we should not be shy about giving them stuff with comparable ranges).

Quit kowtowing to Putin. Give him what he is dishing out.
Nukes.

Changes things…just does.

Yep
Macron et al should just keep repeating to Putin:

Sanctions are NOT going away
The LONGER you stall here, the MORE weapons and support we are sending to Ukraine. AND we'll tack on more sanctions.
Suck it.

I'm guessing by the end of this their will be 100,000 dead all because of small d syndrome of Vlad. Negotiating with dictators has never worked.

and people wonder why we’ve had a rise of populism and a general derision of the status quo in politics over that last decade. Macron, Scholz etc are just current examples of the short-sighted, ineffective, weak leadership we’ve grown accustomed to over the past few decades.
