This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

The activation of the T62's is a perfect example of how Russian's think differently than westerners.

They will put minimally trained crews in these death traps to absorb Javelins and NLAWs.

We mistakenly think their casualty numbers matter, but in reality if they lose a million men but take all of Ukraine they will consider it a victory.

Not sure that holds in 2022

Prove it doesn't. Their behavior in this war indicates it hasn't.
Oh their current behavior and approach suggests they are still living in the 1900s from a ruling stand point, but 30 years of being a somewhat more open society combined with just the nature of where the world is in 2022, I don’t think any ruler there can get away with killing a million troops, and they are already getting in trouble for the 30k dead. They also have a major population decline problem they are dealing with.

FWIW

I can see forced blood donations in Crimea and the Southern areas bordering the Donbas.

A few hundred pages ago I made some posts about the supposed wealth that Putin himself has hidden away, but I heard an interesting interview with Oliver Bullough recently. He has written multiple books about the corruption in Russia and the system of oligarchs. He is about as knowledgeable as it gets on the subject. When asked about Putin's wealth he said it is probably quite small. He said that Putin never intends to leave Russia, and only someone who intends to leave Russia bothers to steal money and hide it overseas. The dacha that Putin lives in supposedly cost about $ 1billion. Bullough thinks that it was paid for by the oligarchs as tribute, and that whenever Putin needs something, he has one of them pay for it. Kind of a kiss the ring thing. An exercise in control over them. He doesn't interfere too much in how much money they make, but, he wants them to know he is in charge. Bullough does think that he has hidden money for his wife and kids, however.
Most despots wind up dead, rather than in exile. The big ones, anyway. Bullough believes Putin thinks of himself as a tsar, and that he only wants power and the imagery of being an imperial leader. If you think of Putin that way, it changes any possible way this thing ends.

I agree with Tony. They're bartering territory gained for men lost. Russia wants all of Ukraine and is just grinding it out. They don't care about casualties. The only count that matters is territory gained and outlasting Ukrainian casualties.
