This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

This needs a "How it Started; How It's Going" meme...
How it’s going…

National Salvation Government (NSG) in Yemen has expressed concern over what it called “suspicious” activity by US and French troops stationed south of the war-torn country.

The discussion took place during a parliamentary session held by NSG officials on 17 August.

The suspicious activity cited by the NSG refers to a claim made by Yemen’s former Foreign Minister, Abu Bakr al-Qirbi, who said that French Foreign Legion, a French military force comprising of foreign nationals, has arrived in Yemen’s Shabwah province to secure control of the Balhaf gas facility.

The Yemeni people have demanded the withdrawal of all illegally occupying foreign forces in the country, including recently deployed US military troops, who are there under the pretext of fighting terrorism and aiding the coalition.

According to Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, Yemen’s Prime Minister, the recent lootingoperations carried out by the Saudi-led coalition have been taking place under US directives, as part of a scheme by Washington to secure control over Yemeni oil through its Gulf allies.
Did I miss the discussion where we talked about sending troops in Yemen?
This reads like completely anachronistic colonialism, invading and pillaging the resources of a foreign country.
WTF is going on?

Protecting an energy supply sounds reasonable to me. At least as long as they are paying for it and not stealing it.
France has been giving Yemen monetary assistance in recent years so they may be welcome. Saudi backed forces attacked Yemen again fairly recently so this is confusing, at least to me.

The West needs to have their plan laid out in the event this happens.
And let Putin understand what those ramifications will be.

They should already be deporting ALL Russians back to Russia. Particularly the rich oligarch-related ones. Round 'em up, if they're in the posh resorts of the world. We have a Navy, use it and forcibly send these folks back.
It has been months ago but I can recall the UK reminding Putin that they too have nuclear weapons and the ability to use them at their own discretion.

"Even the UK on its own has the ability to cripple Russia with its nuclear arsenal, let alone what the US has at its disposal.

"In fact, just defence from the UK alone if the Russians strike Britain would mean the end of Russia."

The German argument-maybe they better get those factories up and running again.

"You have to measure to what incredible point of disarmament we have reached today: when we sell Rafales to an allied country or when we send Caesar guns to Ukraine, it takes two or three years to be able to replace them. ..."

Anyone with ties to the US military heard something similar? This seems like a pretty big deal to me. Of course it could be posturing to try and influence Putin.
Nothing.
Some speculation of sending more bodies and equipment to poland and romania just in case and also to allow them the ability to help Ukraine more.
I’m calling bullshit on this story.

"For the first time, the U.S. is sending 15 ScanEagle surveillance drones to help the Ukrainians spot and correct the precision artillery and rocket strikes that have taken a toll on Russian forces, stalling their progress. The small drones can be moved around the battlefield relatively easily and would be invaluable in the expected push to retake the city of Kherson in the south.

Other items included in the tranche suggest preparations are underway for Ukrainian ground troops to make that push in the south, where fighting has been at a stalemate for weeks as the war has settled into one long, punishing artillery duel.

"Right now, I would say that we are seeing a complete and total lack of progress by the Russians on the battlefield,” a senior Defense Department official, who insisted on anonymity to speak about the war effort, told reporters Friday. “In that sense, we are at a different phase than we were even a couple of months ago" when Russian forces were gaining ground in the Donbas and in the south.

The equipment being sent for the first time includes 40 heavily armored MaxxPro mine-resistant vehicles, originally developed for U.S. forces in Iraq during the height of the fighting there when roadside bombs were taking a heavy toll on U.S. forces. In Ukraine, they will clear roads and fields before ground troops push forward, creating paths through dense minefields laid by the Russians.

Also new are TOW guided anti-tank missile systems, sixteen 105mm howitzers and 36,000 rounds, plus 2,000 rounds for the Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle, a small anti-armor weapon used by U.S. special operations forces. The Carl Gustaf, which can be carried easily and is designed to work in close quarters with an enemy, is an indication that the Ukrainians expect close-in fighting in the coming weeks.

It’s unclear whether the equipment will be delivered ahead of that long-telegraphed counteroffensive, though the delay in its launch has some wondering if it’ll ever happen."

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. It is a legitimate story (in the major British papers) but maybe the Brit officer telling his people that got out ahead of his government.

Look at the source, it’s a grocery store tabloid.

IF this is true, the collapse of Russian special military operations in Ukraine may be closer than we think. One would predict to start seeing internal fights between regular army ready to desert the front and Wagner/Chechnya’s goons there to make sure that does not happen.

Wow. This seems too good to be true. So many many parts seem to be falling into place for Ukraine, albeit at a terrible cost for them.
One can hope.

FWIW it was also in the Mirror which is also another tabloid. The quotes are less dramatic in context.
