This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

One things for certain Stuttering Joes 6 rounds of sanctions have done nothing but backfire on him.

What have all the sanctions produced? The Russian economy did not collapse, and Putin consolidated his power.

America and its Western allies became a hostage of sanctions and found themselves trapped between their convictions and economic realities. From this untenable situation, they could see no exit and continued doing the same things expecting different results.

But there is more.

“When you strike at a king, you must kill him.” The West failed to kill the king; if history is any guide, he will come back with a vengeance.

Thus far, Moscow has honored its contractual obligation to the extent possible under the sanctions. It has not used its leverage over the world economies yet. Putin may be waiting for the help of Russia’s most powerful ally – winter.

Given the interdependency of the world economies, the logical approach would be to stop economic masochism and a return to the period of Donald Trump’s political and economic sanity before we inflict irreparable damage to world commerce.

Unfortunately, there is no conceivable basis for such reversal. President Biden is not known for a logical approach. Biden’s logic is the logic of failure. Incapable of foreseeing impending catastrophes, the President doesn’t recognize the danger until it comes.

Nice copy and paste job.

You kidding me?
  • If I’m a Russian male, I’m now a hostage there.…Cannot leave.
  • Russian stock market just took biggest dive since sanctions started.
  • 270 Russians killed every day on average since war started (for comparison purposes, US lost ~ 11 soldiers per day on average in Viet Nam)
  • Tech drain of college educated Russian professionals left Russia since their invasion started. Luckily got out before being held hostage by Putin and sent to die.
  • Biden united NATO like never before. Finland and Sweden now becoming NATO members.
  • Biden has US military looking strongest on world stage since anyone can remember.
  • Ukraine getting stronger by the day….Russia weaker
Yet Trump stated Putin is a genius for invading. What are you and Trump seeing that the rest of the civilized world is missing, @Red Runney ?

What has Biden done to make the US military look the strongest? US military has been and will be the strongest on the world stage going back to the '40s.
Lockhead, Raytheon, L3, etc and the American taxpayer (and complete lack of regard for the deficit) have made the US military the strongest.

Germany might have to turn down the thermostat during winter, but too bad you will freeze to death on the front lines once Russia mobilizes. That, or you trying to keep warm will give off a heat signature allowing you to be easily observed with thermal imaging, and dispatched with a drone.

What has Biden done to make the US military look the strongest?
  • Led pulling NATO together vs. breaking them up.
  • Called Putin a war criminal vs. calling Putin a genius.
  • Provided Ukraine with US military technology and training vs. blackmailing Ukraine and withholding US defense aid unless they provided info against a political opponent.

I think what Biden can be credited for is the slow boiling of the frog. If Biden gave everything Ukraine wanted early, it would have likely been viewed as provocation/escalation and could have triggered a broader conflict. But he started with a little aid and with broad NATO/world support, and gradually turned up the heat a little bit at a time, until the frog was cooked and with no watershed moment. This has allowed our military prowess (expertly and bravely utilized by Ukrainians), to chip away at the veneer of the Russian army, exposing the rot and dysfunction underneath, with Ukraine now shining bright with our junior varsity hand me downs, for the most part.

Thats all great, but none of that makes the US military any stronger (perceived or in actuality). Sounds like orange man is still, as the youths say, living rent free in your head.

It makes the coalition stronger.

AND increases the likelihood that sanctions against Russia will be embedded for the long-haul.
Again, none of that makes the US military any stronger. It may make other NATO countries start pulling their own weight, but thats not the same as making the US military stronger. Just decreases the burden of the US to be world police.

There's logistical reasons for this as well. While our military is very good at moving things around to get it where it needs to go, it can't do it all at once and supply chains do take some time to develop. Plus, Ukrainians needed to be trained on the western equipment so they could be used effectively. It seems to be working really well right now though.

Most objective views last spring thought the tide would turn in Ukrainian favor in early August.

That's EXACTLY what occurred.

NATO/Biden/Pentagon have handled this masterfully.

as is equating less burden to strengthening. "not weakening" ≠ "strengthening"
Yeah, this makes zero sense. As I said, a really weird take. Allies provide increased forces, increased force capabilities, increased intelligence, increased force projection, increased access, increased logistics and I could go on and on and on. All of those things make US forces more effective and, therefore, strengthened.

Yea, this makes zero sense as well. Point us to some features, weapons, tech, etc the US didnt have before this conflict and now does. The US is definitely the rising tide for other countries, but what arenas has the US risen?

You could make a case offloading some antiquated tech/arms is allowing the US to purchase & develop newer arms, but thats a bit of a stretch.

The US military will be stronger at the end of this for a few reasons.
1. More allies in military treaties with us. This is better for us.
2. Existing allies already in treaties with us are now committing to spending more on their military. This means that we don't have to spend as much defending others and can concentrate a bit towards other concerns.
3. Got rid of older weapons by donating them to Ukraine. Now the military will get budget to purchase newer, higher tech weapons.
4. The older weapons are showing to be very effective for Ukraine against Russian forces. This means foreign countries will likely stop buying Russian weapons and focus on buying American or other western weapons. More money to American weapon manufacturers means more money on R&D for developing newer even more advanced weapons for the US military.
5. Russia has been shown to be a paper lion that can be dealt with by a semi-ragtag group. This shows that the US can allow their allies in Europe to handle Russia and we can concentrate on other areas of the world.

Are the Turks known for understatement?

Meanwhile, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said during a PBS News interview on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York that he's seeking to mediate a comprehensive peace settlement. According to his key statements of his words via Bloomberg:

"Russia should return occupied territory to Ukraine as part of a peace settlement"... Erdogan says he had 'very extensive discussions' with President Vladimir Putin last week in Uzbekistan.
"He is actually showing me that he's willing to end this as soon as possible," Erdogan who has pushed Turkey as a mediator in the conflict told the broadcaster. "That was my impression, because the way things are going right now are quite problematic."

Putin’s public messaging was delayed until tomorrow….seems fishy.

hopefully he ate a bullet
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/vladimir-putin-cancels-much-anticipated-28041287

"Vladimir Putin cancelled a much-anticipated Ukraine war speech under mysterious circumstances.

As the world awaited what was expected to be a "momentous" announcement over the full mobilisation of the Russian military, the leader failed to appear.

The Russian leader had planned a direct speech to the nation tonight, which would mark the first since the invasion of Ukraine in February.

A move to fully mobilise the Russian military would see up to two million reservists scrambled to join his operation.
Putin's recorded address is now expected to be shown on September 21, when the Far East "wakes up" - according to Forbes, citing two sources in the Presidential Administration."

His latest absence comes after it was claimed last month the thug leader was "no longer attending meetings" due to a 'sharp deterioration' in his health."
