This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

I will say that one way he is unlike Hitler is that he has allowed his forces to retreat rather then become encircled. When Hitler was becoming more desperate he was ordering his army to stand their ground as they were about to be encircled.
did he allow them to retreat or did they just do it and he is making up a story after the fact to make him look like he has not lost control

I don't think that's true.

I hope the Ukrainians would be above that. Don't stoop to Russia's level, no matter how satisfying it might be. First-world countries should accept the surrender of their opposition. Try them for their war crimes later.
Unfortunately, it's got to be a logistical nightmare tying up manpower, facilities, food and drink, and transportation handling POWs.

Might even be a Russian tactic to have these mass surrenders just for the reasons I mentioned?

I'm sorry...war is hell. Shoot em.

I'm thinking he authorized the retreats or someone making decisions under him authorized them. Because it's a little too early I think for the military to ignore their leader's orders.

At first the Nazi troops followed orders and held their ground. It was only later that they retreated despite orders.

I doubt that it's a Russian tactic.

Thing is that the Ukrainians have a lot of outside help and if they where having trouble keeping the POW's other countries would step in to help them with that. Especially when it came to the facilities, food and water aspect.

Plus having his troops captured like that hurt's Putin's standing.

Not for the faint of heart. Hope the West lets Putin know they are preparing in case he is crazy.

LOL:
Muzyka also posited that the movement of such hardware could signify preparations for Russia's infamous 'Grom' (Thunder) nuclear deterrence exercise.

"Last conducted in October 2019, the Grom military drills see divisions from the trifecta of Russia's land, air and sea-based nuclear arsenals come together to test their operational response in the event of a nuclear conflict.

The drills saw tens of thousands of troops take part in nuclear readiness tests alongside more than 200 ICBM launch stations, hundreds of military aircraft, and several nuclear warships and submarines, according to The Diplomat." Yeah these numpties can't even organize a two car funeral in Ukraine, so calling BS on that

Expect some "own goals".

Saw another expert (didn't see his name) on TV over the lunch hour and he wasn't too worried about the nuclear threat. He said if it got more serious, India and China as well would almost certainly warn Putin not to do it (if they haven't already).

I am very much looking forward, in 10-15 years, to reading about all the American politicians who were on the Russian propaganda payroll, how they were recruited and how they were managed. Hopefully, a few of them will be hanged for treason but barring that, at least imprisoned. Tulsi will be one of the first and most egregious cases.

Correct. Not committing war crimes is the standard.

I'll give him a break because he donated the Starlink system to Ukraine but he is wrong.

1783 lol. That's like giving the US back to England. I'm all for giving Putin a Golden Bridge to retreat with (The Art of War), but this is obviously too much. Gonna be a lot more invasions in the future if we just concede everything to the invader.
