This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Responding to the annexation move, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has formally ruled out talks with Russia. Zelenskyy’s decree released Tuesday declares that holding negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin has become impossible after his decision to take over the four regions of Ukraine.

WASHINGTON ― The Pentagon’s international affairs chief said Monday that Russia’s new losses in the strategic southern Kherson region are about to spiral into a “major defeat” that would give Ukraine a defensive position amid “hot fighting” expected this winter.

After news that Ukrainian forces broke through Moscow’s defenses in Kherson, which Moscow saw as the gateway to Odessa, Assistant Defense Secretary for International Security Affairs Celeste Wallander said the Ukrainians were on the verge of pushing back the main Russian bridgehead across the Dnipro River.
“That would be a major defeat for Russia because it pushes back even more Russia’s ambition to take Odessa, which was one of the stated objectives earlier this year,” Wallander said at a Center for Strategic and International Studies event.

“It gives Ukraine another defensive position to ride out what probably will be hot fighting over the winter,” Wallander said, adding that in spite of Ukraine’s recent strategic successes, the U.S. and international community must continue to supply Ukraine with aid."

Honestly, higher than anything on that list, is they need negotiate a way to get rid of their nukes as the main punishment so they can never again threaten the entire world with ending. I would negotiate it as a quiet deal that restores their relationship with west and gets them out of paying for reparations they can't afford. The west will rebuild Ukraine and embrace a new Russia back into free trade but no nukes is the price.

What exactly is Russia going to trade besides energy?

The end of this will be a partitioning of Russia with all of the wealth that Putin squandered being used to rebuild Ukraine, Europe paying Ukrainian companies to sell Russian energy that will be part of its suit for peace, Europe physically rebuilding Ukraine, and Ukraine paying back the UK and US for everything it has done to make this possible. Essentially, Europe is going to get the dirty work in return for energy and America and the UK profit off it at the expense of Russia.

And then we all say haha sorry when the Russians cry that it's not fair.

Replying to myself, I suppose the upshot for Russia is that when Russian troops are all close together, it is harder to surrender.
They probably can't hold out that long but they could cuddle together when they are freezing to death in a month or so. And as you first stated-think about the new anti infantry warheads the US is supplying-ouch!

It really seems like a house of cards is falling in at least parts of Ukraine. I wonder where it realistically stops before the pace goes back to "normal".

Food and raw materials, mostly.

I don’t think Versailles II is really in the cards

Europe physically rebuilding Ukraine, and Ukraine paying back the UK and US for everything it has done to make this possible.
Ukraine is dirt poor.
They’re never ‘paying back’ the UK and U.S. what we’ve given them to fight this war.
That was never, ever in the cards.

Essentially, Europe is going to get the dirty work in return for energy and America and the UK profit off it at the expense of Russia.
There will unquestionably be profits collected, but the American and UK taxpayers aren’t going to see them. They’re responsible for providing them.
That’s how this works.
That’s how ALL of this works.

North Korea has Nukes? There is a difference between idiots having a Nuke or two with meh rockets and no bombers or subs vs. what Russia has. If North Korea was ramping up to pop out a few thousand nukes and intercontinental missiles and subs, we would take them out. One thing this war has shown regarding the mismatch of equipment and training and weapons, taking out North Korea would be a cake walk. Only issue is collateral damage to Seoul, but it would be over quick.
Whereas Russians have been exposed to the west and had opportunity to warm up to the civilized world, North Koreans have not. I believe their will to fight would resemble Ukraines more than Russias. There would likely be little surrender and a LOT of death.

One man's opinion.

Neocons always conflate opposition to their adventurism with ‘anti-Americanism’ (as though default American sympathies lie in pursuing their serial wars) with support for wherever they’re making war next.

What was your favorite part of the Spectator editorial? You’ve actually read it, right?

Is it Greenwald’s opposition to censorship? Or does Putin favor censorship?

Is it Greenwald’s opposition to domestic spying by America’s spy agencies and abuse of the FISA court?

Is it Greenwald pointing out the lies spread by spooks turned go to ‘analysts’ for the media?

Greenwald became reviled by the left because he pointed out that Obama wasn’t reforming the WoT, he was normalizing its worst aspects.
Greenwald backs fascists like Bolsinaro and Putin, but “opposes censorship.”

Wide right, Natty Lite.

That has to be sandbagging talk, right? How the hell is Russia supposed to conduct offensive operations this winter?

The thing that worries me is, isn't Elon providing Ukraine free internet right now via starlink? They kind of need that to keep fighting.

I think Elon is being an idiot here but calling him out for it like that might not be the best move.
How big of a piece of shit would someone have to be to buy a Tesla after Musk took away internet from a tiny country fighting Russia because his feelings got hurt on Twitter?

Goes both ways.

Elon has mental issues. That's part of being on the spectrum. This, often, clouds his decision making. Yes, he's made money on Tesla, but most of his cash came from PayPal, which had co-founders.

Greenwald backs fascists like Bolsinaro and Putin, but “opposes censorship.”
Holy hell!
Greenwald’s fearless reporting is what exposed the corruption and got Lula out of jail.
How can you have this completely backwards?

Sheesh, it’s not just an ignorant take, it’s the antithesis of reality.

Congrats.

Elon can be that big of a piece of shit.

Remember he called a cave diver a pedo on twitter because the cave diver said his submarine idea wouldn't work.

Honestly Elon is way smarter than Trump but he's got the capacity to lash out just like Trump when his feelings get hurt.

....Hmmm....what if we air-dropped fake vodka bottles filled with methanol over there in Russian-occupied areas?

🤔
Just drop bottles of flavored methanol. That shit will blind and kill the f'ers. Methanol gets converted to formaldehyde so embalming is for free. Plenty of idiots in India die making the homebrew which is contaminated with methanol. I would gladly dump Vlad's famous methvodka all over Russia.

I'm guessing Ukraine has access to US sat coms. I am also guessing they are a bit more robust and secure compared to star stink.
Maybe Starlink was just a stopgap which allowed Ukraine to survive the early days of the invasion when Russia knocked out their "traditional" infrastructure and has been replaced with something else. Not sure.
