This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Downright strange that Ukrainian propaganda wouldn’t mention the red line everyone talked about for decades was NATO membership, and that’s precisely what the neocons started pushing again as soon as they got back into the White House.

What followed was what had been predicted if NATO membership for Ukraine was pushed.

The diplomatic cables were leaked years ago. The assessments were correct.
Downright strange how Finland and Sweden were extended invitations to join NATO in June w/o so much as a peep from Putin.

"Recent analysis conducted on the ground in Poland and Ukraine shows that the French share of foreign arms deliveries is less than 2%, way behind the US on 49%, but also behind Poland (22%) and Germany (9%).
"I was concerned about the reliability of the statistics which showed France low on the list of contributing countries," says François Heisbourg, who is perhaps France's most influential defence analyst.
"So I went out to the main distribution hub in Poland to see how much in tonnage was actually being delivered, rather than just promised.
"Unfortunately the figures bore out my fears. France is way down the list - in ninth position."

The official reaction to this in Paris is: "Yes, but..."
Yes, the aid statistics are unflattering, but there are other factors at work.
First, defence officials say the true measure of military help is quality not quantity. Some countries are delivering masses of outdated equipment. France has given 18 Caesar self-propelled artillery units, which are now celebrated along the Ukrainian front-line.
France, they add, is like other Western countries in having run down military stocks as part of the post-Cold War peace dividend.

Ukraine's Caesars are fully one quarter of France's entire mobile artillery. It cannot offer much more without making itself vulnerable in regions where it is already committed, like the Sahel and the Indo-Pacific.
"It might look like we are behind other countries, but France has every intention of playing its part," says Gen Jérome Pellistrandi, editor of the National Defence Review.

These arguments are not without merit, says Mr Heisbourg. The problem is that by not being more present in theatre, France risks writing itself out of the plot.
"When I was in Kyiv, everyone was very polite. I had no sense that the Ukrainians disapproved of us," he says. "In a way it was worse. I had the distinct feeling we were becoming irrelevant."

Ok, but what is the impure motive that is in play, it’s not as obvious to me.

How are we only 50%? Is that treating a HIMARS the same as a cartridge of bullets? This graph back in September had us at about 70%, and does not include our more recent aid.

He's just now learning France is viewed as irrelevant militarily.

Do I laugh or feel bad for the guy?

A few new details including the 200 MRAPs.

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The Biden administration's next security assistance package for Ukraine is expected to include four High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers, munitions, mines and mine-resistant vehicles, two sources briefed on the $625 million package told Reuters on Monday.

By using drawdown authority, the four HIMARS launchers and associated rockets, some 200 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, ammunition for Howitzers and mines, can be sent to Ukraine in the coming days."

The onset of frigid weather will end horribly for Russian ground soldiers.

My own opinion is that this war is over before the one year anniversary of the invasion.

And I hope and expect Vlad is gone from power at that point.

I hope you are right but part of me is thinking this could go on for several years. Which worries me because if the Republicans ever take power again they will probably start sending military assistance to Russia.

And all of this stuff is in addition to what we actually need for ourselves, and includes no jets, warships, tanks, choppers, cruise missiles, medium range missiles/rockets, or long range missiles/rockets. Proud to be an American.

If the rout is truly on, no way. The Russians have no appetite for donning suicide vests and doing all of that kind of shit which caused us great pain in Iraq/Afghanistan, and the people of Ukraine want to be rid of Russian invaders, so they will ferret out remaining Russians and Russian collaborators.

Based on what?

In the end they always kowtow to their cult leader who has repeatedly praised Russia and Putin and defended him.

Even after the invasion of Ukraine he has not said a thing negative about Russia or Putin.

Absent their cult leader they might be on Ukraine's side. When their cult leader steps up they will suddenly be fans of Russia just like Tucker.

How far in your ass did you have to dig to pull that one out?

I think this had a lot to do with the speed of the advance. UA can work effectively around the clock.
Harvesting this comment from that thread:

"It’s as if someone had heard the Russians haven’t got enough night vision!"

I also enjoyed:

"ah yes that brand new NATO superweapon codenamed "BASIC MANUEVER WARFARE""

"So they tried this with groups of 5-7 tanks and lost... and tried again with groups of 15-20 tanks and won. The ability to revise a battle plan, months after failure and learn lessons is CLEARLY something that only NATO can do. Well... it is clearly something that RUS can't so..."

I mean have you heard the things Donald Trump Jr, Gaetz, MTG, and the like are saying about helping Ukraine and how Russia was pushed into this because of US actions? Heck, just today Trump Jr is going on about how wrong it is for us to send even a penny to Ukraine while Floridians have lost housing.
