This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

That's just it, that is not their actual goal. It is having zero impact on the actual war front. It's not dispersing them. It's causing terror and impacting innocent civilians. The reason they had not done this to this level before is because it is such and obvious war crime. The occasional "accidental" civilian targets and targeted utility infrastructure targets due to military objective can be done and were done. But they abandoned all pretense for this and are 100% just war crimes and it is proof they are a 100% now terrorist state. There objective is terror and retribution mass killing of citizens, not dispersing Ukrainian assets on the front. It's hoping to kill as many innocent people as possible as both retribution for THEIR mistakes and somehow get Ukraine to concede. It will only harden their hearts to never give up. The Belarus tactic was, though it did not work because all know they wont launch in offensive.
If the Ukrainians are saying they need more air defense assets it's obviously dispersing them to defend against those Russian attacks.

The Russians feinting in Belarus is probably dispersing assets as well. Even if it doesn't happen the Ukrainians have to defend against the possibility.

Not defending Russia's tactics...just stating what seems obvious. Air defense assets shifted from the front is a result of the Russian attacks...

Fighters escorting a drone.

Not a drone.
Surveillance plane (picks up electronic signals).

A surveillance mission of n RAF Boeing RC-135W (reg. ZZ665) is underway. So far nothing unusual.
The strange thing is that in addition to the Rivet Joint we have also tracked two RAF Eurofigther FGR.4s (reg. ZK351, ZK362 – callsign PSYCHO61/62) that are escorting the aircraft over the Black Sea.

While the RC-135W took off from the UK, the two Typhoons departed from RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, and carried out an in-flight refuelling over the east coast of Romania with the help of an RAF tanker, an Airbus KC.2 (reg. ZZ343), which also took off from Cyprus.

The entire mission is carried out while the aerial surveillance was provided by a NATO AWACS (Boeing E-3A, reg. LX-N90451) which took off from Geilenkirchen, Germany.

Are they shifting though? I think they just want more to defend their citizens. You basically are defending their tactics when you say nothing about how it’s simply them shifting it to be a war crime and instead almost offer praise that Russia is “adapting” and make it sound like its because of a military strategy

I would have zero issues with the US or other NATO forces running air strikes on Iran's defense industry sites. Cut them off at the source. Who is going to stop us?
I would be for it too but bet the West fears what could happen to oil shipments.

He is not defending their tactics. It is very clear the Russians have decided to shift tactics as they cannot win strategically on a conventional battlefield. Russia has willfully chosen to engage in terrorism aimed at civilian infrastructure as a strategy. That shift in strategy is forcing Ukraine to take countermeasures, some of which could impact its ability to continue the pace of its counteroffensives.

Noting that this is what is going on is not "defending" the tactics. It is acknowledging their existence.

Ok, but let’s get Congress to approve this war you propose.
How many votes do you think Pelosi will get in the House?
Would Harris get to break the tie in the Senate, or would Rubio, Graham and other hawks help push it over the line?

We should schedule the vote before Halloween and how much enthusiasm the country has for war.

Thanks-I thought it was a reconnaissance drone for some reason. This makes more sense and makes me wonder if the West is seeing a threat to our manned aircraft now.

I'm not "defending" anything...what a weird interpretation. A concentrated effort to attack infrastructure is an adaptation of different tactics by the Russians...sorry if that phrasing offends you

Bomb bomb bomb,
Bomb bomb Iran

Bomb bomb bomb
bomb bomb Iran

Bomb Iraaaaaaaaan.

Be careful. Next mistake is acknowledging that Russia expresses a security interest in not having Ukraine in NATO.
Acknowledging that can only be seen as ‘defending’ Russian claims, not merely recognizing that they exist.

I guess defending is not the right word to use. But I still also would not describe it as "Kind of seems like the Russians are adapting. Going all in on attacking Ukraine's infrastructure with the Iranian drones and whatever they have left in the cruise missile arsenal" as if it is some smart new military strategy without pointing out this is blatant terrorism / war crimes of gigantic scale.

Would be better to say "Whelp, looks like the Russians are going into full state terrorism and war crime mode and attacking Ukraine's downtowns and energy and water infrastructure with the Iranian drones and whatever they have left in the cruise missile arsenal to create fear and panic and possible massive casualties to civilians in the winter months to come."

Turning to mass terrorism / genocide are not legit adaptive military strategies. They are war crimes.

Nope....I'm fine with my post but thanks.

It’s hard to say, there are a lot of DC folk who have been wanting to take down Iran for a LONG time…and you know Israel is on board…

Nah, I prefer this be either a special op that never happened, or one of those things the president approves and we learn about it after the fact. We then get outraged at our own government, softening the image of the American people, while still doing what we really want (bombing iran).

The Israeli flip on this war has been spectacular after Iran has literally become Russia's best friend. Whoopsie Daisy-they may have wanted to actually have picked the side with the Jewish president being attacked for being a Nazi.

You do realize attacking civilian highrise office and residential targets, civilian water plants, and civilian energy infrastructure with the simple goal of causing terror and causing civilians to die of exposure or lack of drinkable water are war crimes. So it does not seem as much adapting but just more Russia deciding to rather go all in with being a genocidal terrorist state. They are embarrassed and mad. I don’t think they care about Belarus.
So typical Russian behavior. We can probably expect Chemical weapons released on civilian population centers soon. They no longer care about what the rest of the world thinks of them. It's beat Ukraine or else.

Wife of Kremlin spokesman spotted vacationing in Tel Aviv, NGO claims

Israeli Friends of Ukraine says it is 'absurd' that Tatiana Navka wife of Russian propagandist is allowed in for private vacation, while 'Israel makes it difficult for Ukrainian refugees to enter'; Foreign Ministry 'not familiar' with issue

The wife of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was spotted vacationing in Israel despite sanctions imposed on the family by the West, a pro-Ukrainian NGO said Tuesday.
According to Israeli Friends of Ukraine, the former Russian ice dancer and 2006 Olympic champion Tatiana Navka spent the last few days at the David Hotel Kempinski in Tel Aviv.
I was watching some NHL highlights on ESPN and I'm just about to the point where I wish there was a way to boot every Russian athlete out of the US. Yeah, it goes against our ideals and all, but, making lots of money here is a luxury, not a right.

Indeed. It is actually scary how brainwashed they are, largely due to so many of the dead soldiers not being from the western Moscow population center. The similarities to the Nazi's get more alike every day. The only good thing is Europe decided to train for this event years ago and fed them superior weapons and they broke their army on the first country! The bad news is the threat of nukes.

Pretty easy to find the airbase that the jet came from on Google. The internet says the base is used to train, but with the beating the Russian bases took in Crimea, I wonder if this base is where they moved assets to in order to protect them? The base has seen better days. It looks like it hasn't gotten a coat of paint since the 1980s, and lots of infrastructure is worn, and overgrown with vegetation.

Of course I realize that.

Just saying that if Russia's objective is to disperse Ukrainian assets to defend against thoise attacks it seems to be working. I just think Russia's objective right now is to make it to the winter "pause" and limit Ukrainian gains till then.

It's not like Russia wasn't committing war crimes before now...it just seems like those war crimes are linked to a tangible objective now. Kind of surprised they weren't attacking infrastructure from the get go.
As much as I hate it here. Attacking power supply does seem like a legitimate military target. Shooting hospitals, apartment complexes, and playgrounds are pure terrorism though.

Russia should become a pariah after this is over, but they won't. We'll quickly forget about it because of oil.

Pretty sure the majority of legitimate military targets have their own generators and power, and that this is meant to break the will of every day civilians.

I won't even watch the league until it gets its act together on this. You have one of the few faces of the league in Ovechkin that has been a strong supporter of Putin.

Deport him and let him go fight

Killing Ukrainian citizens ok!
Killing Russian citizens, nyet.
Only when pain is brought upon these barbarians will they listen.
Beslan and the Moscow theater showed them not to f with muslim republics.
Here, eh just lob some drones into Ukrainian apartments and destroy their ability to survive by freezing to death.
Plenty of whores, vodka and caviar in Moscow, so who cares?

Not if we drill our own oil while developing alternative energy...

I know, we'll never decide to do that, so you're probably right.
