This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Oh it's something I'm advocating for loudly. Of course my thoughts don't matter. Republicans hate alternative energy and Democrats hate using our own oil supply. So we'll of course not do either very effectively.
And oil companies don't like pumping oil for only moderate profits.

The US is energy independent. It's just a republican talking point that we need to do a lot of new drilling.

But that's not what he said. He said "the fighter jet era has passed". Fighter jets are here and now, and will be for the foreseeable future, as are and will be drones.
Youd be hard pressed to say their height hasnt passed. Definitely giving way to unmanned now and in the future. Hence the NGAD goals - 1 pilot for a fleet of jets/drones

I truly worry that Putin's sole intent right now is to drag and prolong the war until after the new Congress takes over in hopes that military aid to Ukraine will diminish.

It's already been hinted that Republicans will not continue the current level of military assistance.

Sure. That is why Ukraine is begging for F-16s when they already have drones, when F-16s are trash compared to the F-22.

Looks like there are 57 (5.4%) Russians on active NHL rosters currently. Why can’t they be deported? I would think all of them and their families would then be advocates for ending the war. Especially after they got back on Russian soil and their lives changed a bit. It would also open up the rosters to more players from non-terrorist nations.

Is there a down side to this?
Trade them for the two Americans in Russia!

It would never, ever happen, but it would actually be moderately enjoyable to see the FBI throw Ovechkin in jail on some bullshit trumped up charges and then tell Russia they can have him back as soon as we get Britney Griner back.

Yeah, yeah, we are the bigger, better country and wouldn't stoop to that level of assholery.

Would still be funny. And well-deserved. :)

Looks like this is several days old. They have around 5,000 troops they can mobilize per another story.

"According to the head of the defense department, in the event of a threat to Moldova's security, the government may go for partial mobilization in the country. But first, a thorough analysis of the situation must be carried out.

"The goal of such mobilization will be to increase the ability of the armed forces of the republic to respond to threats," the minister said.

Nosatiy also noted that Moldova will have to close its airspace due to the launch of Russian missiles by Ukraine. During the massive shelling on October 10, three missiles violated Moldovan airspace before reaching Ukrainian territory. However, the Ministry of Defense of Moldova later denied information about the entry of a Russian missile into the country's airspace."

Ukraine is begging for a lot of otherwise outdated tech/weaponry. Not exactly a litmus test.
The point is that the era of the fighter jet hasn't passed, and if Ukraine had the correct ones with the correct training in correct numbers, Russia likely would have either never invaded in the first instance, or at the very least, if Ukraine had them now, they would wipe out Russia's ground forces, like we would if we got involved. They fulfill missions and needs that drones currently cannot. Will drones some day? Maybe. Do they now? No. Hence, the era of the fighter jet hasn't passed.

You keep reading what isnt written

So their plan is to destroy the dam and flood massive areas so that Ukraine cannot easily cross and maybe wash away some of the resistance in the process? Sounds like typical Russian strategy.
I think I read it the wrong way originally-Russia claims it is Ukraine that may blow the dam. Maybe they can chase out the Russians that way. Of course it could just be Russia blaming Ukraine for something they plan to do.

Maybe you didn't listen to what Elon said when you said: "Hard to believe this was ever a controversial take." He said "the fighter jet era has passed" - as in past tense. He didn't say that "unmanned has been the future of the air for awhile."

I would classify a kamikaze drone as a shitty drone that can’t fire a missile.

I would think missiles are easier and cheaper to replace.

What's the upside?

Totally kidding, I just saw the question and couldn't resist my inner Brian Ferentz.

Seriously though, I would be all for Russia taking their guys back. We don't need them here.

Ok, well this is an asinine argument, so you keep reading things that arent there and debate yourself. You'll probably win.

Or, you can keep not reconciling your statements and those of Musk's in a cogent fashion, with reality. But I agree that it is not going anywhere. So let's not take up anymore space in this thread, although each post is worth 2 Russian KIAs, so there is that.

Didn’t that happen sometimes during the Cold War? We’d catch a spy and Russia would accuse an American over there of espionage. They would be swapped, sometimes at Check Point Charlie, and everything went back to normal. It happened both ways.

Seeing claims of Ukrainian Nazis in the east on Facebook. Is there any truth to this?
