At least Fran can do one thing right. Hated the Alford years when some European dude would torch us and we would inexplicably lose to them.
They have two close losses to 2 solid teams. S/b a good game that the Hawks need to win in order to start building a tourney resume. Hopefully Sandfort's annual bricklaying start to the season is on the wane and he can start leading this team offensively as was expected. It will be needed tonight.
I haven't seen Northwestern play, but looks like they kept it close vs. Dayton which I saw on TV in the Maui tournament. Dayton had excellent guards.

One of the wins they need to somehow make the NCAA tourney field.

It's a long season,.. but this would be a nice win prior to going on the road to Michigan.
If we were fully healthy, I'd really like our chances in this one. As it is, NW +180 (or whatever it currently is) seems like a good bet to me.
I have watched NW a couple of times and they are a decent team. In the last game they lost at the buzzer (but Martinelli could not throw it in the ocean so he will probably be unconscious against Iowa). If Martinelli and Barnhizer are "on" Iowa will probably get beat. They also have two big guys that are functional, but not necessarily good shooters. JMO
Northwestern is decent and will win if Hawks or whoever their opponent is doesn't show up that night.
But this is one of those games you can't afford to lose on your home court if you are serious about trying to make it into the Big Dance.

Barnhizer is a stud, and Martinelli can be a handful. Berry got hot second half. Veteran team, so I'm not surprised they came back 2nd half.
Barnhizer is one of those guys you hate and hate to play against.
Would love to have him on our team.
Barnhizer is good but his arrogant expressions every time he scored got real old real fast.
On the NU board a poster noted in that game NU had a 15 point lead with some 4 minutes to go. To the extent that's accurate ... what a kick to the groin!
