Time for a new regime - the next coach will be:

Who are the sexy coaches you think Iowa should go after? Put some names out there.

Do the fans who want a new coach think Iowa’s next coach will have as much success as Ferentz. The list of schools that have won 8+ games the last 9 years are Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, and Iowa.

College Football is about who gets the best players, the state of Alabama’s 2026 class has 2 5 stars and 18 4 stars, Georgia has 1 5 star and 57 4 stars, Ohio has 1 5 star and 14 4 stars. Alabama and Georgia’s neighbor Florida has 1 5 stat and 68 4 stars. Iowa typically has 1-3 4 star recruits in the state.

An old football coach who runs an antiquated system that gets exposed whenever we play teams who have out recruited us and sometimes by teams that haven't
So pretty much the same as always. And pretty much the same as when most teams were running similar systems.

Iowa will usually lose to the best teams and occasionally beat them. Iowa will usually beat everyone else and occasionally lose to them. Same as it's always been, regardless of scheme.

Scheme is secondary at best. It's about talent and resources to acquire talent.

And what you characterize as being out- recruited is nothing other than the blue bloods getting the best players. Same as it's always been.

Iowa consistently punches above its weight. One of five teams nationally to have won 8+ games in 9 straight non-covid seasons. Literally, if they were any better they'd be a blue blood. Have actually had more consistent success than some of the blue bloods over that time period, and even more of the blue bloods over 20+ years. Literally, in the last 10 years have been more consistently successful than every non-blue blood in the country. And somehow people call Iowa mediocre. You can't make that shit up

So Gonzo wants Barry Odem who just became the head coach at Purdue. He was the head coach at Missouri from 2016-2019 before they fired him after 4 seasons. His 4th season he was real sexy going 6-6 with a schedule that was ranked 67th talk about a week schedule. He lost to Wyoming the first game of the year and lost to a 3-9 Vandy later.

Thomas Hammock has been at Northern Illinois since 2019 and has a record of 32-38 and 21-25 in conference. Great choice Gonzo.

Yeah I'm not an AD and haven't done the research obviously but my overall point was to not be bound to someone who has some Iowa connection.

How were the other 3?

Who would you suggest? Or are you wanting to cling to KF until he's 100?

Your earlier post makes it sound like you don't think Iowa can be any good no matter what. So are you one of these low-expectation-we-should-be-happy-with-mediocrity-because-we're-Iowa guys?

Looking at KF's resume, he was 12-21 in three years at Maine before Iowa hired him. Great choice?

Lol.

I suggest we keep KF for several years as he has won 8+ games for 9 straight years. The idea that our next coach will be better than KF is not likely in my opinion. Second smallest state in the BIG and two power 5 schools. It is always easy to dis KF but when ask to give a replacement many have been less than impressive. If you are impressed by the other 3 tell us why.

KF Maine years were long before he was hired and he had coached under Fry for 9 years and in the NFL for 6 moving up to AHC. I assume Fry would know what type of coach he was and if he felt he could handle the job.

I never said Iowa couldn't be any good only 5 schools have won 8+ games the last 9 years. I simply pointed out that college football is about recruiting and Iowa is at a disadvantage. I do not have low expectations and you seem to think Iowa is at the level of OSU, Michigan, PSU, Oregon, and USC could join this group.

Iowa hasn't beaten a team that finished ranked in the top-25 since 2019. It's 2025. Think about that.

You guys love to talk about those 8+ wins but they're against absolute garbage teams. Any time in the past 5 years we've played a team with an actual pulse, as in, ranked, we've gotten splattered and embarrassed.

And yes, you're of the belief that Iowa will never be better than we've been with Kirk Ferentz. Lol. Loser mentality.

Keep trying.

Not only did Hayden qualify for everything needed in an Iowa coach, he also established the culture that must be continued
Lol, nice try. These were your qualifications followed by the actual facts:

It has to be someone cut from the Iowa cloth. Or at least someone who cares about the state and its people. And someone who understands what Hawkeye athletics means to the people of this state.
Hayden Fry was not cut from any Iowa cloth. He'd never stepped foot in the state. He'd never spoken with Iowa fans and obviously didn't know what Hawkeye athletics meant to the people of this state.

Must relate well to the people of this state and continue to dominate in-state recruiting. If ISU starts to gain inroads with local recruits, Iowa is in trouble.
Hayden Fry knew nobody or nothing from the people of this state aside from Bump Elliott. He knew he couldn't rely on in-state recruits which is why he went outside the state for so many of his best recruits.

Must be someone committed to defense, the run game, and special teams. Must be someone who understands special teams and field position in bad weather.
Hayden Fry was very much committed to good defense, but he did not rely on the punt game and field position the way KF does. Lol.

Must be someone who builds the program around local talent to play a tough and physical brand of football. Trying to beat USC at the speed game makes absolutely no sense.
Chuck Long. Larry Station. Owen Gill. Andre Tippett. Ronnie Harmon. Mark Bortz. Robert Smith. Keith Chappelle. Eddie Phillips. Bobby Stoops. Jonathan Hayes. John Alt. Devon Mitchell. George Little. Rob Houghtlin. Jay Norvelle. Rick Bayless. Quinn Early. Bob Kratch. Mel Cole. Chuck Hartlieb. Joe Mott. Brad Quast. Nick Bell. Melvin Foster. Merton Hanks. Mike Devlin. Matt Rodgers. Leroy Smith. Carlos James. Mike Wells. Damien Robinson. Sedrick Shaw. Mike Goff.

These were some of the most celebrated Iowa football players during Hayden Fry's tenure and none of them were "local talent." Lol.

No visor wearing video gamers that disrespect field position.
Hayden Fry came in with a swagger that would put today's visor wearing video gamers to shame, and he didn't give two shits about field position, he was going to put his foot on your throat and keep scoring... ask Iowa State and Northwestern fans how much Hayden Fry worried about field position, lol.

Just fess up, based on your "qualifications" Hayden Fry should never have been hired as Iowa's HC, which is really about as funny as it gets. Lol.

Being cut from the Iowa cloth doesn't mean one has to have Iowa ties.

That's irrelevant anyway because it was over 45 years ago. Hayden is the cloth

Additionally, I don't know what your definition of respecting field position is, but scoring against bad teams has nothing to do with it.

Hayden routinely ran the ball on 3rd and long, had one of the best punters of all-time, and literally would punt on 3rd down.

KF has many times has referenced learning the importance of a good punting game from Fry/Roby.

Try again

Another garbage post by Gonzo. Was 2017 against garbage teams? Iowa had the 3rd most difficult schedule and went 8-5, Iowa was 10-4 in 2021 with the 13th most difficult schedule, and 10-3 in 2019 with the 22nd most difficult schedule. Our last two years schedules were 27th and 37th.

By comparison Gonzo listed Barry Odem as a replacement for KF and Odem was 6-6 in 2019 with the 67th most difficult schedule. KF least difficult schedule was 55th in 2015. In the same year Iowa was 10-3 with the 22nd most difficult schedule Barry was 6-6 with a truly garbage schedule 67th. This sums up your garbage football IQ.

Modern football is way overstated and isn't necessarily better football.

Imagine what KF would have done with the talent/resources Stoops had at OU.

And again, Stoops hasn't been coaching for a while now, so you'd have to make a case for an imaginary replacement coach too
What would he have done with that talent? Ground and pound it, and none of it would have been there had KF been in charge of the recruiting. The ole “woulda, coulda” argument always shows ignorance.

Just saying Stoops had more to work with.

If KF were at OU, he would have had more talent to work with as well. Blue blood brands recruit themselves, plus a greater talent pool surrounding OU.

It's not a "woulda, coulda" argument. What KF has done at Iowa is established. The burden is on those presenting a hypothetical case for Stoops at Iowa. And again, then somehow presenting a case for whoever Stoops' imaginary replacement would have been, as KF is still at Iowa and Stoops no longer coaches.

I'm taking KF over Stoops to coach any program, and longevity is part of that
