Title 42 Expiration Day Thread

This is true

If we, and other developed Western nations, invested in stable governments and promoted businesses/manufacturing in those countries, we could divest ourselves of Chinese influence, have inexpensive labor for products and eliminate the conditions that create these mass-migrations.

But that would require money and long-term policies in place, with the assistance of free market businesses. Something that most businesses that focus only on quarterly returns just aren't interested in.

I would love to move manufacturing from China (who hates us) to Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, etc. As you indicated, we just gotta make sure we can trust their governments.

There was a recent report that China was exporting ingredients that are used in the production of fentanyl to the drug cartels in Mexico. That fentanyl, of course, then enters the United States, killing Americans.

China is our enemy. Plain and simple.

This is precisely the point

Governments run by oligarchs and special interests, and not accountable to the people, will not result in overall economic benefits to the people. Which will not address the migration issues.

The new rule, unless I am mistaken, is that ANYONE traveling thru Mexico must apply for asylum in Mexico (or a prior country they traveled thru). If they have not done so, they will be expelled.
Expelled, then return. Expelled, return. Until the aren’t expelled.

(Bloomberg) -- New York City Mayor Eric Adams temporarily suspended some of the rules that require the city to shelter asylum seekers as a surge in migrants strains resources.

His decision suspends some of the policies concerning timing for placements in shelters, as well as the accommodations the city is required to provide in its shelters for unhoused families, such as a bathroom and cooking facility, according to a copy of the executive order issued Wednesday.

It comes about a week after officials learned that the Federal Emergency Management Agency gave the city just $30.5 million to help pay for the costs of the migrant crisis, a fraction of the $350 million in aid it had requested.

“With over 130 emergency sites and eight humanitarian relief centers already opened, we have reached our limit, and this last week we had to resort to temporarily housing recent arrivals in gyms,” Fabien Levy, a spokesman for the Democratic mayor, said in a statement. “We will make every effort to get asylum seekers into shelter as quickly as possible as we have done since day one.”

New York City is spending about $8 million a day to house almost 40,000 asylum seekers. Levy said the city has received more than 500 people a day in recent days. That number is expected to swell later this week after the end of Title 42, a pandemic public health restriction that allowed the US to swiftly expel undocumented migrants even if they sought asylum.

New York City, far from the border, needs $350M to deal with the 40,000 asylum seekers CURRENTLY THERE???

Wow. And how much will they need moving forward?

What a freakin' mess.

Doesn't seem like it.
So do you want to argue that the caravans of the past is the same issue we are having at the border today? If that’s your argument, we can simply end our discussion here. We will never agree and I’m ok with that.

Speaking of such governments, why did we ever think it was a smart idea to move manufacturing to China?

Cheap labor, I know, but that's about the only benefit. And their cheap labor has not necessarily resulted in cheap products; iphones, as one example, have cost over $1,000 for a long time now.

Cheap stuff

That's the ONLY reason.

This is the second time in his tenure that Joe has raged at his admin for failing to have solutions to the issue. One of his biggest mistakes was assigning it to Kamala, who promptly ignored it.

At least he doesn't brag about having all the solutions, then do nothing about it.

Can't say Biden is doing any worse than anyone else on this. Yes, we should expect better, but that cannot happen w/o bipartisan cooperation on policies and resources.

We should expect better.

It doesn't seem like we do. Clearly not totally if you're putting it on Kamala and Joe. Again, where's the Republican bill to address this?
What laws do you suggest will improve this? We have laws that aren't being enforced. We just sent 10's of billions to Ukraine to protect their borders. The GOP has HB2 ready to go, but Biden has said he will veto it.

Which ones "aren't being enforced" here?

The data indicate that Biden has intercepted and deported more people in the past couple years than any prior years.

Workplace enforcement raids as well as this administration severely restricting who ICE can deport. You know this. Stop acting dumb.

Then laws haven't been enforced for decades. You seem to think we've only had border crossings for the last 2 years....exactly what Ted Cruz wants you to think. You guys are a joke.

Ukraine? EVERY single Marjorie Taylor Greene talking point you are spot on. Again, a joke.

These dudes are so gullible. Seriously, Ted Cruz and his buddies were down there shortly after Biden took office...trying to convince people like Finance that Biden was responsible for something that's been going on for 50 years. Not one post from Finance in 2019 when Trump had 900,000+ border encounters on his watch. They buy everything those snake oil salesmen, like Cruz, put out there. It's pathetic.

Blah blah. Lol
So you're NOT for members of party leaderships sitting down and figuring out to handle this once and for all? It's a boring conversation that Republicans cry about when they don't have the White House. I would actually like for our government to work once in awhile instead of bitching at each other all the time...especially on an issue THAT HAS BEEN ONE FOR MY ENTIRE LIFE. Same with the Middle East. Never ending problems from that part of the world.

Prove the laws haven't been enforced for decades. Put up or shut up. State the various policy changes by Administration.

Gonna be fun watching these teachers try to adapt to a flood of ESL students. Less time for HROT.
