Tom Brands Roselli and Manning

All I can say is thank God this is a message board and not makingfriends.com. I say what I mean and mean what I say. I asked a question that I thought was innocent and was a pretty strong topic for some time. If questions like that make me a wolf in sheep's clothing to some of you, you will(if you aren't already) end up being "the boy who cried wolf" because you have to see more than half the herd as wolves................

Also, if you see conspiracy in all that I say, you need to talk to George Bush about why he planned the 9/11 attacks..................

Dont worry MSU! We can't even get along with eachother alot of the time on here! I too was surprised that Terry wasn't mentioned but figured he would be there anyway for Dennis!

I am not worried, hence the making friends reference. No matter what you say, or how you say it, you are going to piss someone(s) off on these type of boards. That is why I offered to chat and pay for drinks when/if I get a chance to meet any of you down the road!

We all know that Bill and Hillary planned that, so that 16 years later that would give her an argument when she ran for President.

As far as the original topic, here are my opinions FWIW:

1. MSU really didn't mean anything bad.
2. Everyone knows that while Tom might be the "official" coach, when you get one Brand's brother you get them them both.

I didn't think it was a troll question, and was appreciative of Novak's answer. I just assumed Tom was selected because he is the head coach. I never had any doubt that Tom, Terry, Mike, Alger, Metcalf and Spencer Lee would be mat side and ready to join in the celebration when DD takes gold in Rio!

I like him as well but reading some of his posts I can't help but wonder if he intentionally tries to have a contrarian view for the sake of the back and forth. No offense intended MSU.

This is somewhat true, except for the key part. I don't endorse the contrarian view. Honestly, I am trying to pose the question more as a moderator with a very similar purpose. TO LEARN. I learn a ton about the posters and inevitably the wrestling program itself. I learn who truly is close enough to the program, who the hotheads are, who the diehards, who the open mindeds are, who the major "trolls" are and inevitably get some good insight into the coaches and wrestlers.

The intent is never to hurt the program or any of it's members. It's solely to get a good conversation going, that once you sift through those that get mad or offended, actually offers some solid insights!

Let it go MSU. This thread is dead

Respectfully, you are the LAST person that would dictate anything I do or say. When speaking of "trolls" you have made sure to be my personal one. As a result, I would be more likely to do the opposite of what you wanted................

Or not.. I haven't adressed you in months, nor have i said anything to you other than "let it go" in this thread. I suggested you let it go instead of reacting to every little meaningless thing said. Makes for a bad thread that needs to be dead.

You certainly are one of the most sensitive posters i have came across on wrestling forums. You are worked up over nothing. Relax man! Or dont...

The funny thing is I was not worked up in the least bit and had already said so. I just don't care for any of your comments. Everyone else I kindly responded to.

I don't doubt that you're a fine fella or that your hearts not in the right place.

That said, if you posed a series of questions anywhere near as silly as the one you posed here initially, our time as drinking buddies would be short lived. I would politely thank you for the drink, then head out to my Uncle L.H. Oswald's hunting cabin just north of Dallas.......................

Taken alone, the question in and of itself is not dumb if it came from a neophyte but you have proven yourself pretty knowledgeable as a former D-1 guy and have followed Iowa wrestling enough to know better.

The only reason Tom doesn't have as much freestyle coaching creds as Terry is because he has been a head coach or a top assistant for a lot of years. Terry had the freedom to work at the OTC, Tom didn't.

As I said I didn't really believe it and asked it more to allow for it to be openly debunked.

However, coaches definitely form relationships with wrestlers that can cloud viewpoints even when the coach is still 100% loyal to his program. This I have seen 1st hand more than once.

The only thing I considered was that Terry wanted to stay more behind the scenes in this case and wondered if it was a sort of tip of the cap to Ramos without anything negative towards Dennis. Nothing nefarious or harmful to the program or Dennis. Many things happen behind the scenes that most wouldn't even consider possible. Every sport has its politics.

I still think the Brands bros are the best 1-2 combo in DI and no one is more loyal to their program than they are.

Would you say Terry would have the same success as Tom if he had the opportunity to be the head coach? I think Terry and Tom have a lot of similarities but they may also interact very differently with the wrestlers. I am sure Tom could be a successful freestyle coach but I don't think it is a given he would be as successful as Terry. The same could be said for Terry being the head coach. Personally, I think they are probably better suited to be in the roles they currently are.

They interact differently because of their roles or depending on the individual wrestler. For example, Tom's position has to be more of an administrative one...by definition. But all things being equal, I don't think there is no reason to say that Tom couldn't be just as successful as a freestyle coach.
