Top 10 scorers at NCAAs

If that cowardly ref did his job I do not think Hall is a champ. He is very beatable.
I think your hate for PSU is getting the best of you. Is Hall unbeatable? Of course not. But he is a true freshman. I like his chances for improvement. Even if he doesn't win next year, he should be good for 17-20 points.

I agree he will score those point but I just meant I do not think he is a lock for a champ. He was not dominant like some others. Who said I hate PSU anyway. I do hate stalling.

Early prediction, Michigan will be top 4.
If I had a dollar for every prediction that next year would be Michigan's year to shake the wrestling world, I'd be seriously rich. The best Michigan finish in the last 10 years at B1Gs was 5th in 2011. They are an underperformer, and until they show me otherwise, color me skeptical.

While I agree with most of your post, the door is slammed shut next year. Even losing Suriano, I believed they would win it and that it would have taken a Herculian effort by another team to pull it off. That they did what they did in the finals was pretty amazing. I thought Zain and Nolf were shoo-ins, and that Hall could definitely beat Jordan but that the other two would lose. Still, 3/5 would be a nice cap to a strong tourney. I do think Cenzo and Hall are vulnerable next year but then you have a presumably healthy Suriano (Top 4) and and returning 5th placer in Nevills so it looks like this:

125 Suriano-Top 4 (I wouldn't have a hard time picking him for the finals)
133 Cortez-6-DNP (Here is the wildcard...Cortez hasn't impressed and is a low scorer. Still, he is solid)
141-Lee (?)-If he puts on weight over the summer, he could be dangerous
149-Retherford-Champ
157-Nolf-Champ
165-Cenzo- Top 4
174-Hall-Top 4
184-Bo-Champ
197-Cutch? 5-DNP
HWY-Nevills Top 4

This is PSU for the next two seasons. Going to be impossible to beat next year and very tough to beat in 2019. Good chance they will have four three time champs (Ruth, Retherford, Nolf, Nickal) by COB March 2020. Thanks God for the fundraising thread...I might need a drink after typing all this out. However, our 2021 lineup will be stout and I expect us to finish second in 2019.

I agree with you chief. they are as close to a lock for the championship as you can get. I try to be optimistic and like to think anything can happen. While I do not think our Hawkeyes will press PSU much Ohio State has the potential to give them a run.

  1. Retheford, PSU - 28.0
  2. Nickal, PSU - 27.5
  3. Nolf, PSU - 27.0
  4. Cox, MO - 24.0
  5. Snyder, tOSU - 24.0
  6. Joseph, PSU - 23.0
  7. Hall, PSU - 22.5
  8. Cruz, Leh - 22.0
  9. Clark, IA - 20.0
  10. Heil, OSU - 20.0
  11. Lavallee, MO - 20.0
Hadn't seen it posted elsewhere, and always illuminating.
If illuminating is a synonym for depressing, you betcha!

I hate to say it but Michigan should be pretty good next year. Top 5 is not out of the question. They will have Micic who outside of Clark was my favorite 133 last year. He should be top 3 next year. Massa is pretty good also. 165 will probably be the 2nd toughest weight next year so who knows where he finishes. Top 3 is probably his ceiling but he could finish 4-6 also. Amine is as tough and is probably top 5 at worst next year. Abounader did the smart thing. 184 clears out a ton next year. He's not beating Nickal but outside of that he can beat anybody. Then Coon comes back and IF there is anybody can beat Synder its him. Doubtful but I dont see anybody that he cant beat. Not bad. Might get them a top 5 team with those guys.

Not a bad assessment for an old retired fart.

I don't see Hall losing again in college.

I don't see a lot of daylight between Hall and Valencia at this stage. I frankly thought Valencia out-wrestled Hall in the NCAA semis, although Hall wrestled a more strategic match. Even if Hall puts some distance between them in the next year or two, they could still match up 3+ times before they graduate when you take into account possible match-ups at nationals, Xmas tourneys, dual meets. I don't see Hall taking all of those matches. If he does, he deserves major props.

Undersized hall pulled out of RS wins Nationals. He's only going to get better and fill out for 74, or maybe down to 65? Since his loss to a Valencia at the freakshow (?) and one of them spouting off before WNO..I don't see him ever losing to a Valencia.

I move that much like f** is a required that Mark Hall true fr. should actually be Mark Hall true fr* as I believe he may have gotten his AARP mailer already. ;)
Why do people try to find a way to lessen a young person's accomplishments. Take a breath a wrap your mind around the fact that the kid won the junior worlds in September at 163 then one the NCAA's at 174 in March. Give the kid some respect.
P.S. Visiting because the PSU board is pretty pissed about the scandal racking. I for one see their point let's build up the sport not knock eachother down.

Feel free to show where I mentioned his accomplishment. Pointing out that I was a junior in college at the same age? That I have a son that is sitting for his CPA at the same age? Just changing the reference point. Why does an Iowa fans post mean so much to you?

I'd like that but we all get pissed and say stupid stuff (me included). Here's the issue though: Pretty much every wrestling conversation on this board devolves into a PSU one because we have dudes that drop by to troll or give their POV...some are good about it and some are just being smug bastards.

You guys are top dogs so get used to it. The PSU fan base regularly insults Iowa and it's fans, coaches, and wrestlers. Gilman, Ramos, Metcalf, DSJ, Stache, Brands bros...TNT burning guys out, not making wrestling f**. They couldn't win...hand raised and run off the mat=not having personality or enjoying themselves. Or the no personality interviews. Then, guys like Gilman give their views or have some showmanship and they are classless punks. Never mind that nine other guys quietly went about their business.

You guys have all the toys and the other kids are pissed. Get used to it or don't read the board. Not saying it's right or fair...it just is.

You must have had your blue and white glasses on because I saw shot, shot, shot, shot. and shot and then swallow.
I watched it again. First period Bo took one legitimate shot and in the second Mark took a legitimate shot.
38 seconds into the third, score is Mark 3-2 and Bo takes a half shot, followed by a second half shot at 58 seconds and a full shot at 1:15. Mark gets hit with a stall warning.
So with 45 seconds to go and the clock counting down I count Bo taking 3 half shots and one full leg attack. Mark took one full leg attack and converted. Mark wins.

The ref called the situation correctly. If you see it differently that would be your bias showing through.

Because iowa fans approval is needed?

That makes Meyer all the more a head scratcher. He was better than 2 points at nationals, but couldn't get over the hump against Crutchmer or Jordan. He lost twice to Amine, twice to Brunson, twice to Crutchmer, twice to Jordan, and once to Weatherspoon last year. Both Jordan losses were by a point each. He has it in him to compete against the very top guys. Unsure how he gets over that hump as 174 doesn't get easier next year.

Better coaching.

I like your confidence. But Hall needed a penalty point against Zahid from an inadvertent headgear pull to take a lead late in the third period. Not exactly the type of domination that would warrant the bold prediction that Hall will never lose to Zahid over the next three years.

My office staff apparently thinks I too say stupid stuff. They say I need "sensitivity training"!! But on a serious note AZ, we're adults here, you can spell out THAT F word me thinks!

Would agree. Don’t go to another board if you take offense or have thin skin. Go for info and fun. Everyone knows when something is just plain nastiness or spite. However, on our own boards, its ok to make fun of someone on the other side, but we get defensive when the other side does the same to us? Doesn’t make sense to me. As long as it is just an opinion, why care? Every board has its trolls, but if they get ignored, should be no issue.

Personally, I know I am always right, yet some people disagree with me. :) No matter how obvious something is, there will always be someone on the other side of the argument. It is how we RESPOND that makes the difference. Most of the time the other person is not trying to be a jerk (but likely trying to be funny or just argue a point), but even if they are…ignore it and move on.

People like me and Chickenman (and others) from Philly, learn to like an argument and like to go after opposing views for fun. We generally have a fairly high tolerance for abuse because most of our lives, our teams stunk and we got hammered by other fans so we are used to it. Makes it all the more fun when they win….as infrequent as that may be. However, learning how to react to WINNING is just as hard as learning how to react to losing. Just talk to a Patriot fan even after all these years. All of us have some of that in us. Just try not to be a jerk either way. Goes for all fan bases….

Knowing your audience is also important. Giant or Cowboy fans are basically fair game in Philly, hunting season is always on….and vice-versa. Its been going on so long its expected, not negative most of the time (or no one of these would even understand positive). For most people (other fan bases) though, a little tact, consideration, and a hard shell goes a long way.

In other words, even on your own board, consider your words, but when you are on someone else’s board, expect fun being poked at you (same as they get it on your board) and roll with it or just don’t go there.

Finally, if you are a Cowgirl fan, expect abuse.....it is well deserved.

Inadvertent? Come on Gus, his head was whipped around faster than the tOSU bus'es u-turn as it passed the "last tanning booth for 100 miles" sign on I-80 West

Totally agree, what makes it even harder is to be a fan of both Iowa and Penn State while visiting the boards without throwing the occasional jab if I see a soft spot to be exploited. Believe me MOST everything I say is said to get a grin. do not take me serious.

Hall isn't unbeatable, but I'd never drop a coin against him. He had a better first year freshman year than Zain. Zain was tough (obviously he beat Streibler) but appeared at times that he was very beatable and content with a close match when he had the tools to break it open. Zain learned really fast to trust those tools and now he is what he is. I hate to say it but I think Hall that same thing will happen.

As a hawk fan I will say its pretty obvious Iowa does not have the horses to compete with penn st for a national championship. Sure we have a few bright spots coming in the near future but not enough firepower to change anything. We bring in a couple elites here and there but also graduate some keeping our number of title contenders to a few any given year.

I think overall penn st being the power nationally with proximity also a recruiting advantage it will take an big event changing momentum or some sort of scandal to change things. Hopefully it isnt something like with Gable retiring as Sanderson has alot of time before that is a conversation.

Don't want anyone to take this the wrong way but how is it that your an Iowa and a Penn State fan? I wouldn't say I'm an Iowa fan, respectful and was seriously jealous. I guess dependent on the definition, on second thought, It's possible to be both.

Iowa doesn't need to have all the horses (although it's really fun when you do)...Other schools need to step up and knock off the PSU great ones with their studs also. ASU has some that can make some noise. Michigan has some. OSU and FOSU both have some...EIWL teams have them. ISU doesn't have them though. Minnesota is getting some...it will take a collective effort from teams other than Iowa to help bring down PSU.

Obviously you feel it is not possible to be a fan of both schools or you wouldn't of hit send. Could you re-phrase your 2nd sentence and I will try to be more succinct

While a definite OSU fan first, still a fan of wrestling, and right now PSU is overall the best wrestling team. At one time Iowa was. I think all 3 teams have raised the quality of wrestling we get to see, so I am a fan of that!

Despite what a few posters of each fan base do, I think most when in the real world get along very well, and enjoy each other's company and viewpoint, and respect their fandom. Very few "haters" in the wrestling community.

This. The only real shit talking I heard at the NCAAs...we had ASU fans above us talking smack when Gilman lost. That was about it. At an opposing NFL or MLB stadium, I can't get from the pisser to my seat w/o one comment. Also, people tend to be very polite around those with cauliflower ears.

If the definition of fan is respect for a program past and present, then I guess I'm an Iowa fan too.

Come on, you have never came over here with impish intent? Fans I get along with, fanatics not so much. I can't remember when I bashed the program or it's wrestlers. same as on BWI.
