TV show. “The Americans “

I’m obviously still pretty early in the series, but that’s one of the things I like about it. A lot of Cold War movies and shows are very black and white, good guys versus bad guys. The characters in this show are nuanced and depicted as real people. When Stan tells Phillip that the objective in racquetball is to wear down your opponent until he makes a mistake, the natural reaction is a sense of dread that, oh shit, he knows Phillip and Elizabeth are KGB spies. And then you remember that Stan is FBI and it should be a good thing that he’s on to them. But you’ve been conditioned to like Phillip and Elizabeth.

It was the same thing with Bridge of Spies. Mark Rylance gave such a fantastic performance as Rudolf Abel that you couldn’t help feeling empathy for the character.
It has the Sopranos vibes where you learn to love deplorable people. And, each side had some deplorable people. Phillip and Elizabeth you grow to love as they navigate their relationship. You sit and watch and think they are like you and your spouse. You guys have ups and downs, the kids can be a drag, work can be mundane, your spouse killed someone on accident and you have to go and dismember the corpse and dispose of it, all while keeping the magic alive in the bedroom and remember to be supportive.

Some of you are selling Claudia a little short. She'd teach you a few tricks.
I think I’d prefer that Elizabeth be the one to give me a prostate massage. Claudia’s fingers are kinda meaty.

Another good character, Kimberly, from the show. Note the acid-washed mom-jeans. If you're a fan of the 80's, The Americans is amazing. I'll watch any show that will play some Yaz.

Julia Garner.............. before she hit the big-time in "Ozark"
She didn't know shit about fvck!

Some of them were about ufo’s. Not the crazy the ones, the ones about all the pilots and what they had seen.

Others about Roswell. He had been sent there twice.

He wanted me to study ESP and studies going on in the then USSR, and Duke University.

Then, of course, the books on National Liberation movements.

What are some of these books?
I answered but didn’t do reply. Sorry

Okay, the others were history. The idea being that one had to understand how things were the way they were and why they are.

So, history of Palestine and the formation of Israel. History of South Africa.

Consequently, colonial America.

The wars of succession in Europe and wars of religion.

And numerous spy novels.

I had never even heard of Margo until about 2 or 3 months ago when I started binging Justified. Now here she is, in two of my new favorite shows.
I won’t ruin something for you, but she has a fantastic scene near the end of the series where you wonder about a young Claudia possibly being a wood, then she blows the doors off of the scene with something massively personal and vengeful.

And with that I’m now off to the Googles to see if I can find pics of a young Margo Martindale. I’ll report back if I find anything worthwhile.

This is the best I’ve found so far. She looks like she was maybe in her 40s. Not exactly fappable but I wouldn’t be ashamed to be seen with her in public.

I don't remember the scene, but I'm assuming that young Claudia doesn't look anything like young Margo Martindale.

Has anyone watched this show?

Just curious. My dad told me about this years ago.

For years I wondered why we didn’t do anything about it. Then I wondered why he told me about it. Then I realized that had I talked about it, no one would have believed it.

Now, the program, designed by Putin, has been exposed. We had gathered all we could on the assets operating here, so we used them for prisoner exchange.

My dad passed in 2010 at 95.

He periodically, throughout my life, gave me hints about things, and books to read. If I pressed him on things, it would often be, “I don’t recall”.
good show

Credit to Stan Beeman for hittin that.
I just watched the episode where Stan and Nina hooked up for the first time. And then afterward Nina told him “You don’t have to worry…I’m not going to hurt you or use it against you.”

Which means she is definitely going to use it as leverage against him.

***Edited to add - good God, she’s hot.
