Tyler Cook not invited to NBA combine

So, is it a foregone conclusion for most Iowa fans that Tyler won't return? Has he stated it, or is it just the common assumption at this point in time?

It seems as if he's made it clear he wants to play pro ball now.

I thought the NBA was a long shot for him, still do.

While I don't expect to see him in the NBA, I think he'll be paid to play somewhere in the world within the next year. I suspect whatever the NBA minor league is called now as he probably won't give up on making it to the big show yet and it seems more likely he could do it from there than Europe.

If he hires an agent but doesn't get drafted, and still is registered for classes.. is he able to return? I know it won't happen but just curious on the rules

Scott Dochterman has been adamant that Tyler is gone gone gone. He seems to have inside information about it.

He signed with an agent, he is gone, that ship has sailed.

to where...remains to be seen.

Sounds like Tyler just wanted to get paid to play ball, regardless of what country it's in. He would have to be an imbecile to think he was a lock for the nba draft.

Tyler can still play (and workout) his way into the NBA combine.

Odds are against it, but that window is still open.

Well if Iowa’s staff has a clue and shared it with him, he’d be coming back to Iowa City and working in a realistic game plan his senior year.

Weak side rebounder, garbage points, better FT shooting, and ONLY handle the ball when deep in the post. I could see him being a Reggie Evans double-double type (14-11-3) and maybe with some better D getting a chance.

This. He should of focused on being a Reggie Evans type player - rebound on both end of the floor and be the defensive specialist every team needs down low.

Do you think the staff encouraged him to leave?

Has nothing to do with Iowa's staff, at all.

He should have patterned his game around Taj Gibson. Very similar size and athleticism.. limited offensive skills that progressed over time but a non-stop defender, rebounder and shot blocker. Taj stayed 4 years, got drafted late first round, and has been in the league 10 years. If tyler would have focused on the other side of the ball, he would have carved out an nba career. I hope he still does though, that's for sure!

My guess is he will end up with the Shanghai Dragons in Chinese League. Ball out in an exhibition game against the NBA all stars. Gets picked up by the Lakers. G league at first, the South Bay Lakers.

After this stunt, traded to Fort Wayne, Indiana for the Mad Ants. After a few mishaps and state fairs. He finds himself on a popular YouTube video of a monster dunk. This leads to him playing in the final game of the LA Lakers season.

He balls out, gets interest from teams and signs with an NBA team.

Plenty of leagues beyond the NBA. Paid to live in another country? How many here would’ve passed that up as a junior?

Shit, I had plenty of friends leave college to live in the midwest for less pay than he will likely see.

Sounds simple enough
