Tyson v. Paul fight

It will be on Netflix so no PPV. I will either have one of childhood idols (physically, not as a person) whooping Paul's ass, or ruining my memories of his fights. He looks like he's in pretty good shape. I think he is going to destroy Paul. Thoughts?

58 years old or not, that's still Mike Tyson. And he can still F you up.
Exactly. If you are talking your average HBOTer in their late fifties, it would be insane to fight Paul. However, it’s Mike Tyson. Mike is a fighter, a ruthless bull.

Trying to understand how Tyson doesn’t get more hate itt (and in general) for his rape conviction. It was right around the time Trump raped E Jean Carroll. Did I miss something?

It was a free rape year.

Because the circumstances around Tyson’s conviction are rather murky and in doubt.

Go look at any world champion that boxed past their prime and you'll see how this is going to go. Roy Jones Jr is a prime example.

Mike was the baddest man on the planet when he was 25. He's not that dude at 58 years old.

Not only did he get a lot of hate, he got prison. No one's voting for Tyson for President.

You could certainly be right and perhaps I’m letting my memory of Tyson cloud my judgement. That being said, has Paul ever fought a real boxer?

This is what wiki says:

His boxing career began in August 2018 with a white-collar boxing match against Deji Olatunji, in which he won via technical knockout. His professional boxing debut was against AnEsonGib in January 2020. He later faced and defeated former basketball player Nate Robinson, former MMAfighters Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice), Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz, and professional boxers Andre August and Ryan Bourland. In February 2023, Paul lost to Tommy Fury via split decision in his first fight with an active professional boxer. In 2021, Paul founded "Most Valuable Promotions," a boxing promotion alongside his adviser Nakisa Bidarian, and founded Anti Fund, a venture capital firm with Geoffrey Woo.[8]

JP lost to Tyson Fury’s brother who is a professional boxer. Not sure climbing up the ranks in boxing is his goal regardless of what he says when he is getting attention and bank with this category of prize fighting.

Didn't George Forman grill himself up a title at an advanced age?

I don't expect anything good out of this. Tyson will be battered a bit and do something to quit. He will either take a glancing blow that knocks him off his feet and stay down, stay on his stool if he makes it out of a round, or do something to get disqualified. The greatest chance for entertainment value is the later, as in trying to bite Paul or break his arm.

Tyson lost any will to get beat up long before he retired. He folded like a chair against journeymen in his last fights, when he still nominally still had some skills and ability. But even before his skills really faded, he was a bully that never liked being bullied himself. There was a time that was fine, because there were only one or two men in the world that could bully him. But as his abilities diminished, that list got longer.

And yes, I think Logan Paul can bully him. Paul is a terrible boxer, with no future whatsoever in actual boxing. He lost too Tommy Fury and Tommy Fury is terrible.

But he's probably the best "not a boxer" at boxing that I've seen in my lifetime, and there's been a lot (Too Tall Jones, Mark Gastineu, Mickey Rourke, etc etc), including professional athletes. So I give him some credit I guess? He does have some natural power, and has been trained enough to throw a proper punch, so he will be able to make Tyson stop.

And make zero mistake...Tyson has no pride. Sitting down against Kevin McBride when he did that is far more embarrassing than anything that could happen in this fight.

All that said, I hope I am very wrong (and I was very wrong about boxing once!) and Tyson cracks him good and knocks him out. I just don't see that happening unless Paul maybe is trying to drag it out and play with his food a little bit and Tyson can hit him with a liver shot. I would be VERY surprised if Tyson is willing or able to fight on through any resistance from Paul.

Vegas has Paul as a -250 favorite, and Tyson +200 dog. For sure vegas thinks Paul will win but those are pretty close odds, in my opinion.
It takes 1 punch to hurt or knock out Paul. He is old, but Tyson has a shot in round 1 or 2. I would take the odds if I was a betting man. I think in actuality wins 40 to 50% of the time. Yes he is 58 but he knows how to fight.

He was 45. Big difference from 58 years old.
But Foreman was also boxing the best heavyweights in the world. Paul can fight, but he's not in the same stratosphere of technique, power, and quickness as to whom Foreman was fighting. It will be interesting because one side of this argument will look silly at the end of the day. That is, either Father Time always wins and Tyson is tiny fraction of the fighter he was, or Tyson was a freak who still has incredible power, and Paul get's KO'd in the first 45 seconds.

If it makes you feel better, I also feel it would be absolutely ridiculous and stupid to vote for Mike Tyson as president.

But being a rapist is no longer disqualifying I guess 🤷‍♂️

Paul has to survive the first 90 seconds of Rd 1, maybe the first 30 seconds of Rd 2. I'd put my money on Paul ending it(or Tyson quitting) in Rd 4 or 5

Jake looks fat in the pictures I’ve seen recently. Not sure if that’s a strategy or he isn’t taking his training seriously.

Any good guess as to what time this fight will actually happen? I have plans that night but should be home by 9:00 and don’t want to miss it.
Looks like you'll be back in time.

It’s hard to give an exact time for the main event Friday night, but it could approach midnight EST. The telecast starts at 8 p.m. EST.

I'm taking Tyson. If not for nostalgia reasons, I probably wouldn't. But even if the match is rigged, one punch by Tyson will knock Paul out if it lands correctly.

Tyson 2024
I feel like Vegas is banking on this. closer to fight get a bunch of +250-300 money and letting nostalgia take it over the line. Which is probably what I will do also

Probably wants to bulk up to take punches better since he doesn't need to be faster. Not sure if there is a weight limit in the contract. Timing is the key.

If this fight is legit, no way it goes four or five. Hopefully this isn't Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. titty fighting. Paul has definitely had some fights and Tyson is old as shite, no doubt. That said, the combination of body blows from Tyson followed by uppercuts in quick succession make this very interesting. Paul better be agile or he is going to get tomato-canned. Even with Tyson at 58, Paul hasn't been hit like he's going to get hit in this fight.

Line is down to Paul -220, I'll hit Tyson at +185 just for grins.

Yep, Tyson is ripped right now. One upper cut landing means Paul landing on the mat. All I know is even though this is free through Netflix, I will be pissed off if this some fake fight. I want to see blood.
