USA off to a perfect start, putting 5 into the semis.

@zzs006 has a really good thread with lots of info over on BWI for anyone that is interested in the U20 field:

Win streak comes to an end as Jaglan gets a tf over Singleton.

After day 1, Team USA has 3 in the finals with 2 more going for bronze. Iran also has 3 in the finals, has 1 eliminated and 1 in repechage.

There will be 2 H2H matchups in the finals, and it will be huge for the team race if both Mendez and Shapiro can win.

Great first day for us but Iran is well within striking distance. Need to keep up our results through tomorrow

Mesenbrink, my goodness. What a freak. Quick tf in the semis

Iran unfortunately has taken control of the team race. The two H2H finals matchups later this morning now have even more critical significance

Shapiro and the Iranian are scrappin. Shapiro trails 3-4 at break. Will be interesting to see if Iran can keep pace in the 2nd period.

Lilledahl’s opponent beat Zane Richards and Darian Cruz on his way to a Silver Medal at the Ranking Series tournament in Croatia in Feb. He is a stud.
That is true, he has a very solid resume for his age, definitely a stud. I wasn't knocking Lilledahl at all, just agreeing with the previous post that Nishiuchi has a great neutral game and Luke came nowhere near scoring.

That was an impressive display of head/hands.

Going into tomorrow, we trail Iran 150-125. Iran has 4 more matches, all medal matches worth 5 points each. We have up to 6 matches left, the first 2 being worth 10 points each (for Bouzakis and Carroll to make the bronze medal match). If they both win, then we would have 4 medal matches left worth 5 points each.

If we win out, we get to 165 points. We also would have beat Iran H2H in one of those. In that scenario, we need Iran to lose one more of their remaining matches for us to win 165-160. If we tie them in the team score, they would win by virtue of having more gold.

So we're not out of it yet, but need quite a bit to go our way tomorrow

I see Carroll and the 92kg finals being the determining factors...

I feel pretty good about the other three Americans winning out; but the soon-to-be Cowboy has an uphill climb!

Both finalists at 92kg have pretty much dominated their way through their sides of the bracket...So I see that as a toss-up that hopefully goes the way of AITMUKHAN

Bouzakis wins his repachage match but Carroll loses his. Team USA is currently at 137 points according to Flo, with Carroll placing 10th.

To win the team race now, we need to win all 3 of our medal matches and Iran needs to lose all 4 of theirs. Considering how big of a favorite Masoumi is at 125, this is not a very likely scenario.

2nd place as a team is still a very good result for us, and hopefully we add one more gold and two more bronzes to our individual haul!
