UCLA fires Eric Bienemy

one season and they canned him? What is his deal, he seemed destined for an NFL HC gig?
Three strikes, with the last two being the big issue. While a player at Colorado he had a DUI and then an assault charge. While a coach at Colorado in the early 2000s, the program was brought under scrutiny after accusations of numerous recruiting violations, some of which included drugs and sexual favors. During the same time period there were several women that came forward that they were raped by Colorado players, and the coaching staff swept it under the rug.

The DUI, you can probably overlook. The college assault didn't result in a conviction of any type I don't believe. The last one, how much was he involved as the runningbacks coach?

Those were the reasons sited for why he didn't get an NFL job. I'm guessing he's hard to get along with, or you would think the UCLA gig would last more than a year.

If only the bruins had played like they did against the hawks all season
Good grief PP change your old worn out schemes already ... schooled by another canned crappy OC like PennSt last year, who canned their bad OC two weeks after kicking PP's ass all over the field.

made parker look foolish, then gets fired. wtf
There was a lot going on in that game….and very little of it had to do with offensive/defensive schemes. That was a “bad day” for the Hawks and the tyeam’s physical health had a lot to do with the performance on the field. Not an excuse……just an observation….Iowa’s #1 flaw has always been “depth” and there are days when it just shows up and rears its ugly head. MSU to some extent but definitely UCLA were this year’s primary examples of this. And yet, iot took a really long field goal by UCLA to win them that game.
Phil Parker didn’t forget how to coach that night…..he just ran out of “pieces”.

Statement from Eric Bieniemy’s agent Jason Fletcher: “Eric and UCLA mutually parted ways today as previously planned. He’s still getting paid by the Commanders. After interviewing for head coaching jobs last year, he wanted to stay active and busy. So, he decided to go help out Deshaun Foster, who is like his little brother, at UCLA as opposed to sitting out a year. The plan was always to return to the NFL in 2025, and he’s looking forward to the opportunities ahead.”

I think he has some off the field baggage that hurt him in nfl circles.
Word down here in KC is that publicly, people questioned his level of involvement when it cam to calling plays for the Chiefs. Privately, it sounds like he interviews poorly.

also talk about the way he interacts with the players regarding his manner. Sounds like he is a big control freak, expects perfection and really gives guys the business for not executing well.

So was he never hired as a HC because Andy Reid/Mahomes carried him and other teams saw that? Or was he not hired because all NFL owners are racist? ESPN tried to lead people to believe it was the latter.

Eric could plan an offense against Iowa. With Iowa you know where every single defensive player is going to be on every play. There are no surprises.
Just because Iowa plays quite a bit of base defense doesn’t mean you know where the players will be or what their responsibilities will be on any given play.

JFC you people are stupid.

That seems to come up over and over with him.

Then again, I thought some of the Chiefs players said the team was more disciplined with Bienemy, so someone had to be the a$$kicker and maybe he didn’t mind doing it because it suits him well. I always figured the Reid/Bienemy "good cop/bad cop" dynamic was sorta like the old Ferentz/Doyle dynamic? That said, look where it got Doyle.

Considering Matt Eberflus got a job, and failed at it, some NFL team should just give this guy a shot alread, just to see what happens - do an unprecedented one or two year deal.

So it sounds like he wasn’t fired. He’s an intense dude. He’ll get hired back in the NFL.

This is just flat out wrong. Our cash position moves around a lot. Parker blitzes a lot more than he used to.

Not so much this year, but historically Iowa has had a lot of interceptions where you saw in the QB's eyes that they were totally surprised by where the DB was

He left the nfl because he got passed over by the Commanders. EricB was Andy Reid's OC for several of the last years including 2 super bowl wins iirc. Then he left to go to the commanders who fired their coach but EricB didnt get the job.

He will definitely land somewhere and could be a head coach

I dont know Andy Reid and I dont know how he interacted with his sons in their lives but both his son's have had troubled pasts, trouble with drugs and the law, alcohol and a bad car accident and injury caused by one son. Prison time by both sons Garrett and Reid. It makes you wonder some time if coaching all those years and basically being gone from home a lot causes this some times.

So maybe Reid is the good guy who is loose on the discipline. But I think Andy is a great coach and offensive mind. Too bad about his sons.

Journalist caught a lot of heat for questioning Reids loose handling of his sons and players... I never understood why and felt it was a legit topic in light of drug use within his family and players with character issues.

This is how I understood it. No way that Foster "fired" Bieniemy for underperformance. He'll have an NFL OC position in the next 1-2 seasons.
