honestly i am not sure they underperformed. maybe 125 but other than that i don’t think any particular loss surprised me. unfortunately teemer isn't healthy and that has been clear for awhile
Pretty disappointed in the fact that most of Iowa losses are to guys they beat earlier in the year. Carver has to have a huge advantage cause that’s whetr most of the wins came from.

I'm curious as to where this next coach who is going to walk and beat PSU right away is coming from? Nebby? I mean most on here want TNT fired but who is this savior? Pease bring some names to the table that can recruit & coach better instead of saying WE SUCK fire everybody.
Also as soon as everyone realizes that everything leading up to Nationals is just a bunch of exhibition matches. Sad but true that's all the program cares about.

What a horrid take. Zalesky was finishing bottom half of big ten. Also what did Taylor do as a coach this year that says he’s the savior of a program? All the transfers were already going to Okie St. All the recruits were already going to Okie St minus Ross and that had more to do with somebody in Ross’s ear than Taylor winning him. Also multiple wrestlers on our team that we don’t want to lose would leave had Taylor come here.
No one going to beat PSU right away, but Brands has shown that he’s not the guy to build a legit challenge to PSU. We would be out of Top 10 if we didn’t have booster money to bring guys in. Hopefully Buchanan wins, otherwise no BT champs in 2 years. No national champs outside of SL since 2017. Guys always beat up, hurt, and not peaking.
Title of the thread I feel is an understatement. No big wins or upset wins for the hawks this tournament. Only losses to guys they have already beat. I thought we were a better tournament team than dual team. Nearly not the case. Pretty good at looking at the lights this round so I guess that something.
Very disappointing that no Iowa wrestlers who were recruited by Iowa will win a 2025 BTT championship. Barring an upset to Buchanan, he will be our only BTT champion. Of course, he was a transfer. That’s a major concern going forward. While, Iowa has some excellent recruits coming in, they’ll need significant growth from Gabe, Keuter and others.

This is just dumb, he was the only one to do it recently with back to back titles in 20 and 21
Emotionally drained, coaching failure, out coached by Nebraska, Illinois and Minnesota! Get Metcalf and Kemmerer in the room. Take downs take downs take downs. We've got talent just under performing. Brands coaching fails to resemble the dogged aggressive 7 minute chain wrestling that made opponents hate wrestling Tom and Terry Brands. Where's the pride?
I agree, there needs to be serious consideration on the coaching expectations. What the hell is going on?

Need to throw a bag of money at Dake and Nolf ffs. Why is Kemmer at Minny? That's very telling IMHO. I love the Brands, but their loyalty to former wrestlers is a huge flaw that is plaguing the program. It does appear the injury bug only took 1 year off, boys look a bit beat up this season.
if Dake's BFF can't get him to OSU with a high payday, then he can't be bought by anyone. Nolf is going in another direction in life. Martial arts school in Texas. I fully expect him at some point to open a club in TX and tap into that virgin territory. Maybe he and Bo.
At the end of the day, the most frustrating thing about this weekend is how any Iowa wrestler aspires to be a champion when they rarely get to their offense and most of them are one demential when they do attack. Bobby and Ryan are great people, but neither was known for offensive wrestling. In life, you generally become who you surround yourself with. With 3 point takedowns and 4 point near falls, there has to be some focus on these things and hopefully people on staff that can coach the execution. Recruiting is great, but development is necessary.
So in different threads you’ve advocated for deliberately injuring Mesenbrink and beating up Cael. And that’s only what I’ve seen.

Well they are not entirely reliant on transfers. Ayala, Schriever, Kennedy, Arnold, Keuter. All of those were recruits not transfers.
Gable should have coached for another decade and retired in his late 50s. Yes, his body was falling apart, but he broke the NCAA record total the year his hip exploded and had to have it replaced. He proved he doesn't have to be on the mat to be a great coach.
