Ad with that appeal the NCAA will drag it out for the whole season before answering.
Mute appeal.

Here's a hopeful spin.

At least Noah can continue to work out & practice.

Lets say it takes the NCAA almost 2 months to go thru their motions. Maybe that means Noah misses the first 6 games and returns in time for the Oct 14 game at Wisconsin.

The schedule:

Sep 2 Utah State
Sep 9 at Clown U
Sep 16 Western Mich
Sep 23 at Penn State
Sep 30 Michigan State
Oct 7 Purdue
Oct 14 at Wisconsin
Oct 21 vs Minny
Nov 4 at N'western
Nov 11 vs Rutgers
Nov 18 vs Illinois
Nov 24 at Little Debbie

If nothing else, he can get his body ready for the April NFL Draft.

Not sure if you are a wrestling guy but you should know that quite a few wrestlers dont wrestle the whole season. Woods took several meets off last year. The program isnt gutted. Arnold will replace Brands, kueter replaces Cass, Riggins replaces siebrect Assad is tough to replace but he hasnt been exactly a world beater.

Weren't the 4 Iowa wrestlers who have been suspended one year projected starters? If so, that's 40% of your lineup that you would put out there to win @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset a B1G and National Championship ;)

And I thought the plan was to redshirt Kueter. If so, should you mess with that plan (and the future) all because of Cass' stupid decisions?

COuld someone please show me a codified NCAA rule that says Noah Shannon can't play NAIA football for a year and return to Iowa next year.

So now the natural question is which sports books and what other states did they operate in? Why wasn’t this done in the other states?

I could start another thread about that so it doesn't get lost in all this scuffle....

P.S. though.....every state has a "Department of Criminal Investigations" so to speak. They're just not all called that. I believe some states also have separate divisions solely for gaming/gambling.

It's just that the jurisdiction in Iowa falls to the DCI.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this investigation doesn't happen unless the Iowa DCI gets tipped off.

Iowa doesn't just have one guy at each weight. Methinks you don't understand the Iowa wrestling room and the depth. Using the term "starters' is enough for me to realize you don't know wrestling.

Did he turn himself on or did the DCI give his name to the Athletic dept for not comittomg a crime?

That's a valid question. Unless Noah comes forward we'll likely never know.

Pretty sure Noah (and 40 others) got caught up in the DCI's sting, the DCI reported their list of names to the UI and to ISU, and then both universities notified the student athletes that they were busted. Then both the UI and ISU, of course, reported everything to the NCAA.

I realize they have more than one guy at each weight.

However, our 10 projected wrestling starters would not have won a B1G or National Championship this season. So, you think inserting 4 backups into the lineup gives Iowa a chance????

So, does Shannon get to keep his scholarship after violating NCAA gambling rules, and receiving a one-year suspension?

pretty sure he does. wouldn't KF have to yank it? KF seems pretty sympathetic to Noah's situation.

I hope the number of bets, who he bet on, and total dollars wagered eventually comes out. Noah might as well come completely clean because it's better to have facts circulating out there than the current rumors.

Doesn’t seem like the punishment fits the “crime” here. However, didn’t that football player lose half his season after self reporting to the NCAA for betting on NBA games? Why even risk it as a college athlete?

Good memory. The NCAA initially gave him 9 games; it was reduced to 6 games after appeal.

A story from November, 2022:

Virginia Tech linebacker Alan Tisdale missed the first six games of the Hokies’ 2022 season. Speculation as to why the redshirt senior defender was deemed ineligible by the NCAA ended Thursday, when The Athletic reported that Tisdale was suspended for wagering on NBA games over the summer.

Tisdale placed about $400 worth of bets across about 100 wagers on the NBA Finals, according to the report. None of the bets were more than $5, and he won a total $41 on the various wagers. Tisdale placed his bets legally on FanDuel in Virginia. The winnings were donated to charity after Tisdale self-reported his violations to the Virginia Tech athletic department.

The report suggests Tisdale was unaware that any sports betting by a student-athlete is an NCAA violation, not just gambling on the sport you play. During a team meeting before the season, Tisdale realized he made a mistake and reported his violation to Virginia Tech, which passed it along to the NCAA. He was issued a nine-game suspension by the NCAA, which was reduced to six after an appeal.

Virginia Tech wasn’t pleased with the NCAA’s decision.

“We try and do things right,” Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry told The Athletic. “And even though the kid was wrong, he didn’t know he was wrong. And as soon as he realized he might be, he came forward. And I just don’t think there was enough consideration given for how things shook out.”

Could have been a lot worse. there were rumors circulating that our defensive backfield was going to take a hit. And Fran got lucky that Ahron Ulis decided to transfer; now his college career is over and he's Nebraska's problem.
What about these rumors about Harris and Schulte? Is this thing over yet, or have they not been reported here because they didn't want their names out yet?

"The defense believes that the State used Geofence, or similar data collection methods, as well as phone pinging data to capture data on the Iowa and Iowa State campuses after which students and other athletes were eliminated as targets unless they belonged to specific male athletic teams, which if true, would be a violation of the Defendant's constitutional rights as the State is not allowed to use discretion when choosing who to apply the law to."

That is BS, but I’m confident my assumption is true. There probably were few if any females gambling on sports.

We all know a lot of guys that gamble on sports. I know zero women that do. No doubt it happens, but it’s likely rare.

All of us males have been 18-22 year old males at one time. We were dumbasses…most of us were dumbasses.

It has been reported that Lee (DL) and Brock (RB) have left the program. It is widely assumed that Dekkers (QB) is done. I haven't heard for Hanika (TE) what level of punishment, but general feeling is he is gone. Remsburg (OL) returned to practice and general feeling (don't confuse that with an announcement of finality) is he will get a certain number of game suspension but may play yet this year.

if there is one issue fans of Iowa State and Iowa can come together on it's this one.

any thoughts on what sparked the whole thing? i heard a jealous ex-girlfriend ratted out her ex but there are so many rumors out there it's hard to know what's true

Damn right The Capt makes good points!

but will the NCAA listen?

I can't wait until Sep 2. Hopefully reporters are not reporting that "so and so" and "so and so" are not on the sidelines. The reason I say that: no one knew which baseball players were suspended this spring until reporters went down the Iowa baseball roster and started checking names off; suddenly, 4 players repeatedly were not present at games. Keaton Anthony was the big bat that might have gotten Iowa deeper into the NCAA Tournament.
