O$U will keep Urban until there is an outcry from their fan base to let him go. That's not going to happen. The AD will be the fall guy for this issue. This will never be about the victim as witnessed by the cover-up. It's a win at all costs game at OSU and their fans won't allow the administration to fire him.

The assistant coaches will skate saying they told Urban and he will escape saying he notified the AD. The AD is the sacrificial lamb leaving the adminstration to do business as usual and there's no disruption to the football staff.

OSU will thumb it's nose at those calling for action and ESPN and the Big Ten network will applaud the courage exhibited by OSU in making the right decision and going against public opinion. Dollars matter.

This (except it probably won't be the AD who is the sacrificial lamb...it'll be some lower level administrator responsible for Title IX stuff or something. They'll find someone who was supposed to have dealt with it, say they were told and that will be the end of it.

They might make Urine apologize for lying to the media where he'll hold a press conference and tell us all what a stand up guy he is and that domestic abuse is a horrible thing that should not be tolerated and that the coach needs counseling to help him overcome his anger issues...yada, yada, yada.

The longer this thing goes on, the more likely Urb keeps his job. Not sure about Gene Smith, though. I think somebody has to be the fall guy.

If Urb stays, it's not likely they can/will do much to current asst. FB coaches either.

I have no sense a profit center like tO$U will do the right thing.

It's decided. How else can the review committed say we will be finished in 14 days. It goes no further. The assistant has been fired that caused the mess and life goes on. Although I do see a lawsuit coming by the victim against the Ohio State Athletic Depart. They will pay it off, which will be much cheaper than paying off Urban.

I would not send my son to OSU to play for Meyer. You put the recent developments at OSU with his blind eye he had for what was going at Florida, you don't have a pretty picture.
You have a classic narcissist.

I'm sure Tulane or Western Kentucky will immediately be put on probation because the NCAA is so mad at OSU! :)

plus Bourban was walking into hotel rooms and throwing full bottles of gatorade at his players... who would want their son to play for a coach that does that?

Mrs. Tebow?

Is that the right answer?

Yeah. Because nothing says good character like lying.

Your post actually says A LOT about your character. Like others have said, it still matters to a lot of people.

There is a difference in what you are saying. Coaches "lie" to the media all the time if they are asked things like whether a player is going to be available for an upcoming game due to injury and they'll say something like "that will be a game time decision" when they already know the player won't play. That is different than what Meyer did, which was when asked about when he became aware of the abuse allegations against the assistant coach flat out denied knowing about any of it until recently. Only reason he lied was to make himself look better and it was much worse for him once it is now known that he's been aware of the allegations for years.

Had Meyer said at Big 10 media days that he made a mistake in not removing Smith from his staff several years ago, and that he has learned from that experience and will have no place on his staff for abuse of women, it would have been dropped and people would have moved on. But he basically called McMurphy the reporter a liar. Turns out McMurphy had the proof so Urban was shown to have handled the whole thing in about the most cowardly manner possible.

Much in the same manner he left Florida. Big winner as a coach, stand up guy, uh NO!

No way the AD will be fired if Urban isn’t. It’s being reported now that OSU has never contacted the alleged victim about it. If it was reported then they obviously didn’t investigate it.

If KF stood up there and lied to the world in that same situation, I would lose all respect for him. Fortunately, KF has a moral compass.
If you think that all media is lilly white, then you are confused. He should have just said "no comment" to anything that wasn't x & o related.

Oh dear...it appears OSU left a turd in The lobby of The athletic department.

Hilarious reading stuff from Buckeye fans at the rally.

In short:

Re: average WR coach Zach Smith - Terrible what he did; unforgivable; glad he's gone.

Re: long-time scrutinized AD Gene Smith - This guy didn't do his job; he has questions to answer; maybe he needs to go.

Re: top NCAA FB coach Urban Meyer - So unfair; he handled everything properly; he needs to be reinstated now; he teaches respect for women.

LOL. Can't write this stuff.

The media and it's fabricated outrage is just a big old joke. If/when he is retained will these reporters retain their outrage and question Urban in 6 months?

I believe a lie is a lie, a criminal act is as wrong 6 years later as it was the day it was commited. You can pay for your crimes and earn the respect back but the act will forever be with you. Your leash will always be shorter than that of somebody who doesn't carry around that baggage.

The outrage will wear off as soon as the next Big story is presented to the public. Protesters are often there to make themselves feel like they are doing something impprtant. They know nothing and care even less.

The victim will carry the scars with her forever, the amount of sympathy and support will wane from the media and fake supporters. They will scurry along like rats to the next Big ship. This topic will die off and we will all be talking about the next issue The question is did we care at all for the crime, or did we care about the big names and brands involved?

CNN would rather cover tweets and porn stars than the stories of rape and crimes committed by illegal immigrants over in Sweden. It doesn't fit their political agenda so they have transformed their news program into a 24 hour bash Trump. Fox, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, ESPN and every other media outlet does it as well to a certain extent . Politics just suck in general so I will not get into that firestorm.

The question everyone of us must ask ourselves is what would we do if we were in Meyer's position. You have a family to support and you are at a huge brand with countless people watching your every move.

You have a coach accused of domestic assault, you have a certain amount of trust in this man and you just learned he may have beaten his wife. The man tells you straight to your face he didn't do it. You ask him and he denies it, you can suspend or fire him there and then based off a his word vs her word scenario. You (allegedly) had no evidence of abuse. You (allegedly) pass the claim up the line. Without knowing for certain what has happen you do nothing more.

Three years later you fire the coach because of a trespassing charge, evidence has come out supporting the victims claims (pictures?). You are asked about the incident and claim to not knowing, you may not know of the case or it's legal ramifications. The media finds out your wife knew and you probably did as well. You get put on paid leave, you later admit to knowing about the claim but also State you did pass along the information.

I feel the step he most definitely took in the wrong direction was lying. I would think I would have investigated the claim more, but I don't know the exact details of what he did or didn't know. Do you fire or suspend somebody based off a claim? What are the personal boundaries and do you let the legal authorities sort it out before you do anything?

I am disgusted at Zach Smith for assaulting his wife.I am disappointed at Urban Meyer for lying to the media. It's easy for me to say Urban is a scumbag and he should have fired Smith on the spot but that isn't reality. It is easy for me to say I would have done it.

For context on claims and how easy they are to make:

Zach Smith counters that his ex wife attacked him physically and he held her back. Has he been convicted of the crime? The pictures show bruises on her arms from what I have heard. Do any of you know 100 percent what happened? I don't and have claimed to not rush into judgement. I guess that makes me accepting of abuse right? All of these people who rush into judgement are just as irresponsible as Urban Meyer was when he lied. You are hypocrites and are the same people with the mob mentality of the Salem Witch Trial participants .

I keep betraying my claim that I won't comment on stuff like this. I actively avoid political channels and try to stay away. I come to sports boards and the crap hits me in the face. I stupidly click on the thread and am reminded why I hate these topics. Everybody espouses their beliefs and I react foolishly. We never get anywhere and the World moves on.

Unfortunately most parents are sending their son there to win championships and have a better shot of making the NFL. Morals and safety be damned. With them, it’s develope my son into a player first, and into a man second.

The other sad thing about this is OSU Rivals site is using this to try to push sub. sales. They see all the traffic and put up numerous ad tweets a day.

Yeah, I doubt Urban will be fired at this point. I think OSU would have pulled the plug by now if they were firing him. Let the news cycle move onto something else ... and do your "investigation" and then announce Urban will be suspended for 4 games ...

Winning is too important to OSU for them to dump Urban. The guy is an ass. But, he wins football games ... and to the University and to many of its fans, winning is more important over morals. It's the sad world we live in ... when it comes to college football (and other sports) ... gazillion dollar stadiums, multi-million dollar salaries ... win-at-all cost attitudes ... I'll have absolutely no respect for OSU if this plays out like I think it will ... (If you don't think OSU is all about winning ... tell me if Urban keeps his job if OSU had finished 7-5, 8-4, 7-5 etc., the past three seasons ... They would have dumped him asap) ...

Those at their rally would be the loudest voices in the fire Urban club if he was putting out mediocre seasons.

I think you're right and it's a sad reflection of Ohio State and their leadership.

One thing going for Ohio State, it's impossible for most of us to hate them more than we do already.

When they hired the guy they knew what they were getting. A guy that would win but with suspect ethics. They didn't care. Especially after going 6-6.
