I'm here at the USS Iowa. It's an absolute cluster. Talked to people waiting in line to get aboard, and they said they have been waiting for an hour and still are not on board. Food and beer options appear pretty limited also.
and yet only one of them made it through the war and is still floating today... thank God it's ours.
Waiting to board the ship, was told it will take us about 2.5h to get aboard. At least the weather is gorgeous and the company is great!
Was just told by one of the workers that none of its armament has been decommissioned. All they need is the ammo to fire the 16s! They won't, of course, but it's pretty interesting. If I understood him correctly, it's the only one of the Iowa-class ships to not be decommissioned.
That's what 386 aircraft loaded with bombs and torpedoes will do. The Yamato's fate was sealed from the time it left harbor. It was a suicide mission with only fuel enough for a one way trip.
i just read that. sent to be beached at okinawa and defend the island. did she even make it? what i read was pretty ambiguous as too where she was sunk.
