Good stuff on Spencer...
"Lee, who was also a Cadet World champion in 2014, seeks his third-straight World title and looks to become only the third American wrestler to win two Junior World championships, following Ali Bernard in 2003 and 2005 and Victoria Anthony in 2009 and 2010. If achieved, he would be the first U.S. men’s freestyle wrestler to accomplish the feat."..

Saturday, September 3Men’s Freestyle 50 kg, 60 kg, 74 kg, 96 kg (Lee, Gross, Hall, Moore)
10:00 a.m. – Preliminaries
6:00 p.m. – Finals

I'm sorry for this question but I was a bit surprised Bey didn't medal. I went and watched the match he lost and it seemed to me he had two arm throw attempts that were definite "slips".
Do they no longer call "slips" in Greco?

Here's a link to the match on flo. The very last takedown that ends the match is one example.

I thought they still called slips, but I'm hardly an expert on Greco rules. Expected him to medal as well, but then again, I don't know much about international Greco competition. Sure bring a lot to the table don't I........

I didn't get a chance to see the match Bey lost but I did catch the two matches he won...wow. He looked phenomenal in those. I think he can be a World/Olympic champ if he stays committed and driven to the sport. He has a great understanding and feel for Greco, and probably the best athlete at the world championship regardless of division (cadet, junior). But to answer your question, yes they still call slips. In one of Lamont's matches his amount was granted about 3-4 slips.

They did call 1 slip in that match. The final td was definitely a slip and I'm not sure why the coaches didn't challenge it. Lindland grabbed the plush toy as though he thought about it but just shrugged and moved on. Nothing to lose there. At the end of a match at Worlds if you have any doubt the refs got it wrong you throw the darn thing.

After thielkes match I don't think lindland is allowed to throw the cube anymore.

Thanks for the slip confirmation(s). I went to flo and watched the "top 7 greco" matches they have posted and noticed a few slips involved in those matches. I was pretty sure they called them but in the Bey match I noticed they didn't call two (maybe the first one they did and I just didn't notice it). But the last one was a huge "slip" and they gave the takedown and like you said, no challenge requested. I realize at that point in the match that Bey is down big and probably not going to win but it's Bey and that kid is a man child that could score big at any second...I'm with you, you have to challenge and give him a shot. I agree he could be a major stud in the years to come if he stays focused. My only question is does he have the "gas tank"?
PapaBear, if Bey has a weakness...is it his gas tank?

He has gassed before but not to the point it cost him a match. At this point I believe his biggest weakness is hand fighting/controlling ties. Anybody that he can lock his hands around is going for a ride. Anybody that can keep him from getting ahold of them has a good chance of winning. He's launched Mark Hall twice in losses. When he gets to the point that he's the better hand fighter every time he steps on the mat he will be a World/Olympic Champ.

Tough draw. He lost to the returning bronze (that has familiarity with him) who lost on criteria 3-3 to eventual champ (dominated finals) before repeating bronze. If those 3 guys are not all on the same side he likely medals. On a positive he's only in year 1 of his 3 possible years at the junior level. If he's at the same weight I see him as the favorite going into next year's tournament.

Is he going to be a tweener at the Olympic weights?

Nah. He just wrestled 74kg. The Olympic greco weight is 75kg.

Good news. I thought I saw him up a weight class earlier in the year and didn't know if it's a tough cut.

Future looks bright for Greco. Thielke Perkins coon spieller bey Etc.

Lamont is a guy that could be very successful if he went the Otc route but that's not happening.
