Since the game isn't in Iowa City it is far more likely the bricklayers union shows up rather than the guys that can make baskets so I'm pretty pessimistic about it. It's women's team or bust for me this year.

auburn because Iowa will shoot their usual 30% away from home then pout and play no defense
Iowa struggles to defend everyone.
They did a better job defending athletic teams like Maryland, Illinois and Indiana than they did athletically deprived teams like Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Iowa doesn't have to play great defense(not that it's a real option) but if they can play inspired defense, keep Connor off of quicker wings and make shots...

If Iowa is shooting well they can advance pretty far. They can’t win with defense or rebounding Or even hammering the ball inside. They either shoot well or they lose. But if they are shooting well.....you get the IU game.
Spot on. The problem is it’s damn near impossible to shoot 40%+ from deep for more than a couple games on the road AND even if they do, we all know the other teams shoot well against Iowa.
It’s a completely flawed system Fran has, in my view.
If we come out and hit some shots immediately like we did at Indiana, we will prevail. If we come out disinterested (looking at you Tony) like we did against Nebraska on Senior Day, it could get ugly.
100 percent! Random #10 guy off bench will throw in a handful of 3s while Iowa misses bunnies, etc. Death, taxes and Iowa getting a crappy 8/9 draw against a team in their backyard on Thursday to boot. At least let me enjoy one damn day of tournament!
That said beat E Illinois and/or Nebraska and we are definitely off that seed line.
You can’t do it all season, but they can get hot for a few games, teams do it every year. We are Dangerous but deeply flawed.
I picked Auburn but it wouldn't really surprise me if Iowa wins either.

No one else has a guy that can do 4:1 Assist to TO ratio.
I don't mind Auburn...if we win, it would be the best NCAA win of Fran's time at Iowa. If we lose, better lose to a P5 team than an A10 team.
I picked Auburn (hope I am wrong) because:
1) McCaffery will get out-coached
2) Auburn has more athletes
3) Iowa has not played well in the last two games
4) Iowa defense is bad
5) and finally, well it is Iowa

Yes, the lack of NCAA success seems to be linked to Fran's style of play. Iowa seems to be missing key factors that most teams that go on NCAA deep runs seem to have. Lacking defense, lacking great PG, overall lacking in guard play; Offense doesn't travel as well as defense.
Upsets occur, teams put together streaks of exceptional play--we just need two 40% plus 3pt shooting games in a row from an Iowa team with around 33% season average from 3pt line.
Iowa could make the sweet16. There isn't enough talent for this team to make a deeper run. The big run Lute's team had to final 4...that was a 5th place B1G team, but they were on a winning streak to end season and they had Ronnie Lester back for NCAA tourney. I don't see that type of wind behind our sail this year.
Think of this! Other than Houston (which I have only heard they’re very good), there’s not a single team that puts The Fear Of God into me.

1986 ann 1991 Hawks were in Minneapolis. Fun times. Hawks were an 11 seed in 1986. Lost by 2. Unfortunately Roy Marble missed 7 free throws.
Auburn, why b/c Iowa does nothing in the ncaa tourney. Throw up 3's and soft defense can only win you so many games.
It's hard for me to describe. On one hand, it isn't a system that is ever going to result in a national championship or even a real shot at a final 4 birth. On the other hand, it is fun to watch (when they make baskets) and it does seem to keep them consistently competitive during the regular season. I keep hoping he will tweak the system to make it more effective but since it seems to rely on 3 point shooting so much it will never be consistent. I generally like Fran, I think he is a great guy and does right by his players, but I also just don't see much hope of making a real threat to make a deep run in the tournament. Maybe I'll get proven wrong this year, but we will see.
Also, I'm not on the "Fire Fran" bus, but I'm not going to go into mourning if a change was made either.
Houston's best player was hurt for the conference championship game so there is a chance they won't be full strength next weekend.
