I see a lot of people complaining about being in desmoines or Alabama. What? Do you only want to win 1 game? Playing in the Midwest bracket allows Hawks to win away from home in Bama and then play next week closer to home. I don’t mind it at all. Hawks getting Houston will be tough as they play great defense but we can score. But first we gotta beat Auburn who has been tested but we can beat em. Go Hawks!!!

IF we are fortunate to beat Auburn & #1 seed Houston, playing in Kansas City the following week will be nice. I am guessing #4 seed IU and #2 seed Texas end up there, too. Hopefully #6 seed Clown U doesn't make it to KC (#3 seed Xavier likely makes it).

Our region is up for grabs, imo. Why not us?

Iowa wins. We are up and down and due for an up.

Of course playing Auburn in Birmingham isn't favorable? You don't usually see the lower seed get that kind of love.

Alabama fans have already made it known that they will be cheering for Iowa when we play Auburn.

They even asked what some of our normal cheers were.

Should be interesting to watch.

Here's a preview from ESPN. Boy, have they gone downhill.

Good Story from HawkCentral.

Some excerpts:

Players noted that there's been a collective sour taste off the heels of their recent losses. But there's an opportunity to wipe the slate clean as a new season approaches.

"A lot of guys weren't happy with our performance over the last week," Murray said. "I think we have to take that anger out next week on both sides of the ball. We've been talking about playing with a chip on our shoulder over the last few days and now it's time to put it into action."

Iowa will look to advance to their first Sweet 16 since the 1998-99 season. In order to do that, they'll have to beat Auburn and the winner of the No. 1 seed Houston vs. Northern Kentucky. If they do that, the party is on in Kansas City for the Sweet 16.

Last season's NCAA Tournament bid was met with much more optimism as the Hawkeyes rode in on a wave of momentum as a No. 5 seed. This year's feeling is different off a disappointing week to end the season. Senior Connor McCaffery noted that the team's shown resiliency in tough spots this season, and they're looking forward to the chance to show that yet again.

"It's a a lot different being an eight or nine seed than a 5-seed (in 2022) or a 2-seed (in 2021)," Connor McCaffery said. "I feel like you're playing with house money a little bit, it's not like you're playing and you feel like you're supposed to win or have to win. I'm excited.

"You don't need extra motivation at this point. If you can't get up for these games at this point now, you shouldn't be playing."

I see some are comparing Auburn to Indiana but a less disciplined version. That Iowa has very little chance because they are so athletic. My memory may be a bit fuzzy, but I believe Iowa beat Indiana twice this year. Iowa covers the +1 and wins 77-72.

Man, the haters are out in full force.

Iowa by a zillion! I can't wait to see Pearl throw his sweat-drenched coat on the floor after yet another easy Hawkeye fast break.
Agreed, not many positive feeling posters here. I'm crying in my milk cause I can't watch the game that everyone says we're going to loose. Huh.

I expect some zone from our defense.
Good call, I like that, I expect a lot until they can beat us from the outside - as it sounds like they really struggle with that. Pack the lane / down low to help Filip out with their talented big man and keep him in the game. Neutralize their athleticism.

Is that write up from last year for us? Hottest teams in the country? (we just lost to Nebby and OSU back to back). Keegan Murray? Wow, I did not know he was suiting up. Unbelievable for ESPN.

Yep. Someone at ESPN clearly screwed up & didn't update Iowa's profile from last year when previewing this year's Iowa/Auburn match up.

Iowa has done well against teams who are defense heavy. Honestly I think Iowa wins this, and if they do, Houston is missing a pretty key player and anything is possible.

Interesting that Houston is nevertheless the favorite to win it all.

From ESPN:

Cougars guard Marcus Sasser, the team's leading scorer, was held out of Sunday's championship game after suffering a groin injury against Cincinnati on Saturday.

I'm thinking the PAC finally gets it done this year and either Zona or UCLA take home the hardware. Although they don't churn out at-large bids like the B1G, ACC, etc, the PAC has been acquitting itself pretty well as of late with whom it's putting in the tourney.

They really don't shoot well from 2 or 3.

Rebound the basketball, eliminate 2nd chance points.

Here's one quick, interesting scouting report:

I realize that we, as Iowa fans, don't feel it is particularly fair that we have to play Auburn in their back yard. I'm hoping that it doesn't get into the team's head and they will just treat it as another game on a neutral court. Auburn lost four of their last six, so they aren't invincible. We just have to come out with the correct mindset, hit a few of our early shots, and continue attacking them on offense.

Auburn's offensive rebound % ranks right where TCU and Illinois are. Those teams destroyed us on offensive rebounds. Iowa's going to have rebound well to win. Good news is Auburn is a terrible defensive rebounding team and Iowa is a good offensive rebounding team. Iowa should get plenty of chances to shoot open 3's if they can get offensive rebounds. Can they just be average at shooting 3's and not the usual horrendous shooting road team they've been? If Iowa shoots 33% from 3 that should be good enough to beat Auburn. I picked Iowa because of Auburn's poor defensive rebounding and Fran will be able to get away with playing zone in this game.
