Great read and gets Hawk fans a bit giddy to envision AJE and Waggoner along with Shannon and Linderbaum on the DL! Maybe it's just me but John seems to be somewhat of a forgotten man in this recruiting class, maybe it's because he was instate but given him a year or two and I think he'll remind us of Jared DeVries!

I imagine Nixon will be chomping at the bit also. DL looks promising for 2019.

Good article. I am excited to see how these kids develop and how good this D can be with Eppy and Waggoner at the bookends. But with the rest of the DL depth, they should be better then we have seen in years, especially since they can rotate and stay fresh. I think Nelson is going to be a monster for OT's to deal with the next couple years as well.

Nelson is the MAN at DE this year. I hope AJE improves enough to show the coaches that he needs to be on the field on passing downs, and that he can set the edge to keep QBs from escaping.

Then in the 2019 season you have from left to right: Nelson, Nixon, Lattimore and AJE. By then our LBs should be pretty salty and Hooker and Stone at safety and all sorts of competition at CB, including Hankins, Creamer, Rugamba, etc. is Ojemudia going to be a junior this year? If so, he will still be available as well.

The most important thing I gathered from the article is how much of a "fit" Waggoner is for the Iowa program. The ability is awesome ... I'm certainly excited about that ... however, perhaps more so, I'm excited about his work-ethic and his attitude. Seems like a kid who will come in and continue to physically develop as a FR and learn the D ... and then be a surprisingly strong contributor as a RS FR in '19.

It's also interesting to see that he has a body-type that is somewhere in between Anthony Nelson's and AJ Epenesa's ... he's a really strongly built young man who really projects wonderfully as a strong-side defensive end. Furthermore, if he's explosive like the article suggests ... then he may have the sort of versatility that will allow him to play on either side ... just like Anthony and AJ. That not only will allow him to see more reps ... but it allows for the D to be more flexible about how it manages personnel too!

Lastly, if you look at the movement that the coaches have been doing on the DL ... it appears like they're trying to do what they can to both compensate for a "lack of beef" on the interior ... while simultaneously trying to alleviate some of the log-jam at DE. I'll be really curious to see how the DL rotation works out this year.

Yeah, crazy me didn't mention Nixon, have liked his film for a long time, he's a big boy who moves very well, perhaps even quicker than Jaleel. DL will be just plain nasty for several years to come.

This defense has tremendous potential....as talented, deep, and experienced as we’ve had in some time......if this group stays healthy and works hard in the weight room while developing at a normal pace in practice LOOK OUT
