Was Brody Brecht a Bigger Disappointment in Football or Baseball?

Annnnd the baseball regular season is over. Iowa's pre-season first team All-American pitcher finished the year...checks notes...with a 4-3 record and a 3.6 ERA. That's right...the team's ace managed just 4 wins in his entire final season with the Hawks (out of 15 starts).

That's the equivalent of a pre-season All-American QB throwing for 1,000 yrds, 5 tds and 7 interceptions.

It's the equivalent of a pre-season All-American Luka Garza coming back for his senior season and putting up 10 pts and 2 rbs per game.

It's the equivalent of a pre-season All-American point guard Caitlin Clark finishing the season averaging 9 points and 3 assists.

If the experts on this board are thrilled with his performance on the baseball field or simply want to be contrarian for the sake of feeling like internet tough guys, that's on them. Facts don't lie. Brecht himself would tell you he had a disappointing season and didn't come close to playing up to high expectations. He'd say the same about his underwhelming football career.

Looks like he stumbled midseason. Started strong and ended strong. What is his stats if you take out the four game stretch on 3/22-4/14? I don't count wins as meaningful stat...don't get me wrong - nice to have, but not solely on pitcher.

He’s also moving the goalposts, he originally said he was a disappointment period in football/baseball.

And for such a disappointing season - which the entire team can share in; bullpen blew several leads throughout the year…he still ended up first team all-b10 and remains a likely 1st round pick.
