Meenan: No. 3 Rocks buying in, but Hoover cautions it's only December

The Rocks are led by sophomore Brea Beal, who has been joined this year by Davenport West transfer junior Chrislyn Carr, last year’s leading scorer in the Mississippi Athletic Conference.

The Rocks' résumé includes wins over nationally ranked Lisle Benet Academy, the two-time Illinois Class 4A state champion, plus earlier victories over perennial powers Rolling Meadows and Palatine Fremd.

This week the Rocks face the Class 4A No. 2-ranked team in Montini Catholic of Lombard on the road

The Rock Island-Montini game should be good. The Hawks are looking at players on both teams.

  • Prospect Nation Eval: Rice was one of the stand out players at the Check Me Out Showcase in the class of 2018. She is poised on the floor and has good balance that allows her to gather herself really well before she shoots, which gives her great rotation and arc on her shot.. She has proven she can knock down the baseline jumper, and is even more effective penetrating the baseline and it's a good option for her to score offensively because of her length around the rim. Where she can look to improve is building more strength, so she can own the baseline and be able to power through fouls for AND 1s. Offensively, her instincts to score and make decisive reads on the defense are there. Overall, Rice is geared up for the next level if she continues to build strength and keep building on her current talents.
  • 5StateHoops Eval: Rice has High Major recruit written all over her game. Whether it's leading her prep team in scoring as a freshman or taking the reigns of a talented AAU squad, Rice is a gifted scorer. Lean and athletic, Rice is tremendous off the bounce, using quickness and reach to get clean looks in traffic. Has a strong shooting touch with good range. Rice is a player BCS level schools will need to get looks at.
  • Class 4a Iowa Newspaper Association All-State 1st team
  • Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State 2A 2nd Team
Brooklyn Paulson, 5-9 G, Holmen HS, Holmen WI

Speaking of Chrissy Carrs....
Christianna "Chrissy" Carr, 6-0 G, Manhattan HS (KS-2018), has committed to Kansas State;Christianna Carr moved to KS from MN when her father was hired by K-State as director of student-athlete development
A bogus hire nets a recruit. To the highest bidder. I believe this is illegal in MBB. but is still a loophole in WBB.

Isn't that how Kelsey & Chelsea Mitchell ended up at Ohio State? Her dad supposedly let it be known whoever gave him a coaching job would get his daughters.

Chrislyn Carr could be really good. Had a chance with All Iowa Attack 2 summers ago. Saw how hard they worked and it wasn't going to be all about her.......so she bailed.

I believe she has a father involved, which may or may not be a good thing from what I've heard.

Thought I would add some 2019 names that are in Iowa's recruiting territory. from ESPN's 2019 Watch List:
Zoe Young 5-9 G IA
Grace Cumming 6-3 P IA
Kennedy Brown 6-3 P KS
McKenna Warnock 6-0 W WI
Rickea Jackson 6-2 W MI
Breanna Beal 6-0 W IL
Anaya Peoples 5-10 G IL

Courtesy of OakHawk from retired WBB recruiting thread. This list does not include Destinee Oberg 6'2" P MN, who I read in another forum had an Iowa offer.

[...] class of 2019 (soph in HS this year) post player Destiny (sp) Oberg from Holy Angels. Top 25 kid who also already has offers from the likes of Maryland, Iowa, Iowa St and TCU.

If anyone has any knowledge of her, I would be interested to know.

Some more 2019s:
Sommer Pitzer 5-6 G OH
Rickie Woltman 6-2 MO
Gabbie Marshall 5-8 G OH
Taylor Geiman 5-10 G PA
Sydnee Roby 6-3 P WI
Regan Nesheim 5-11 G IA
Ashten Prechtel 6-5 P CO
Sara Stapleton 6-1 F MN
McKayla Daniels 5-6 G MD
Laya Hartman 5-11 G MI
Sammie Puisis 6-1 G OH

North 73, Muscatine 57: Jinaya Houston shot 12-for-13 from the field on the way to a game-high 30 points for the Wildcats (5-1, 4-1), who pulled into a four-way tie for first place in the MAC.

North looked to be very solid with no weakness. Paige Bradford 6-1 190 lb jr is a beast down low and has been solid in every game this year. Last night she had 25 points and 12 rebounds. I take it Iowa's keeping a close eye on her as she's a tough match for anyone down low.

No Iowa is not recruiting Bradford. At all. Youngstown State and Northern Illinois at this point.

Here's a little stat on Jinaya in this mornings paper. She converted 22 of 26 field goals, averaged 25.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in North's wins against Davenport Central and Muscatine.

Jarosinski's teammate at Montini Catholic (IL) and fellow 2018 prospect Aaliyah Patty (6-3 C) has 10 offers, including Iowa and Missouri.

Jarosinski announced her final five and Iowa was not one of them.

I watched a few of Montini's games. Between Patty and Jarosinski, I rgought Patty looked more college ready. She is stronger and more court aware. Jarosinski has size but is thin and needs to add a lot of strength. Jarosinski looked lost on defense and just used her 6-5 height to bother shots. Patty was more active and handled traffic better.
Iowa is also looking at one of Montini's young guards.

Bradford lost any interest from the likes of Iowa and others like them when she walked away from the All Iowa Attack. At that point, summer of 2015, she had no desire to commit to the program and push herself to get better. Blew a golden opportunity. Hopefully, for her sake, she has matured some and can still get that D1 offer.
Yep. She also didn't like being called fat.

She has 2-3 offers but all smaller Division 1.

Chloe Rice commits to Saint Louis

A first-team all-stater last season, Rice led Marion to the Class 4A state semifinals. This year, she is averaging 18.6 points per game (tops in the Metro)... She visited Saint Louis the weekend before Christmas, and picked SLU over North Dakota State, North Dakota and Iowa.

Carmen Backes / Chisago Lakes / Basketball
The junior guard tallied 26 points and hauled in five rebounds to lead the Wildcats to a 71-52 win over Monticello in the Monticello Invitational. In the following game, Backes recorded 27 points and 10 boards in a 73-54 win over Becker.
On the year , Carmen is averaging 28 ppg and 10.7 rebounds.

I don't pay attention to all names but did she really have Iowa offer or was she just interested and chose not to wait???

She did not have an offer from Iowa. The kid is a good player, but Coach Bluder took her off their list a while ago. SLU plays in a good conference and she is a good get for them.

Not sure where that write up came from, but it's not accurate.

A game coming up Saturday, between Davenport North (Jinaya Houston) and Rock Island (Brea Beal, Chrissy Carr). Should be interesting.

She was never called fat. She was told to work harder and get in shape.....just like many others, of different sizes, in the gym. Quit using Mrs Bradford as your source.

Lol...don't even get me started. But also you don't act like Jensen hasn't said worse to kids.

Beal, Houston headline Rocky-North showdown in IHMVCU Shootout

When Rock Island and Davenport North clash in the signature game of Saturday night’s IHMVCU Shootout at Augustana College, eyes will drift in the direction of Beal and Houston — the two most accomplished players currently in the Quad-Cities.
