What’s the Upside?

The most insane thing about this entire saga is that this, of all things, is what the entire Ferentz clan is willing to fall on his sword for. Really? You’re prepared to throw away your legacy over Spencer Petras and your own stubbornness? Is it an ego thing? I simply do not understand the thought process here.

I can't wait for him to lead us to a Motor City Bowl win

That comment rivals KF’s comment on Deuce Hogan that led to a transfer. Asking “what is the upside?” of having a kid who won 3 games for you last year to replace the qb who leads the nation’s worst offense is a brutal assessment of your feelings about him and completely contradicts your “confidence” and respect for him as a player.

Or rivals KFs answer Saturday night on the “we won 10 games last year” as if our offense was the reason we did.

Anyone who's ever played anything, even at the middle school level, has to wonder what's going on in the minds of Padilla and Labas as they stand there on the sidelines wearing their red caps and watching the nation's worst QB and worst offense make fools of themselves week after week. Wouldn't you have to feel totally moronic to be told, through inaction if not words, that you're worse than the worst QB in the country, that the coaches think less of your ability to improve the nation's worst offense than they do of Petras?

Honestly, I'm not sure what it says about Padilla and Labas if they don't turn in their jerseys and hit the portal before this season is over.

You mean the kid, who in his last two starts was completing passes at a 38% clip? 12-31. Yeah, that's not any better than Petras, not much worse but definitely not any better.

That was a terrible NON answer. He answered a downside question by trying to falsify it by asking a question, about the upside.

The most bullshit, crappy technique by coaches, politicians, heads of police and other types of departments is to answer a question with a question or not answer the question by changing the topic and deflecting.

Poor class. I cant believe he didnt have a better answer than that.

That was a clear sign that Brian has to be on the same ticket as his daddy. Petras will play the entire season, as in every down, much like Vandenberg did, no matter how badly he plays. The only way he will be replaced is if he is injured and even then, they will rush him back into the fray as long as he can run that incredibly complicated offense.

Imagine what their parents are thinking and feeling right now.
What’s the upside …

Completely agree. It’s indescribable and inexcusable. Then to verbally disparage the other QBs is just arrogant and stupid. Dirt on the grave….

Wish they would ask “what’s your plan for QB next year?” Would love to hear the word vomit that followed.

Other answers that would have been equally acceptable:
  • Who's this Padilla character?
  • It would slow Spencer's development and hamstring his learning of our super-duper complex offense....which after 5 years he's nearly halfway to grasping.
  • We won 10 games in 2004.
  • What? Where? When? I don't think so. (in best Vinny Barbarino voice)
  • Who's on first?
  • I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh, people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future. For our children.

I wonder how much NIL money it will take for Petras to return. Gotta have someone with a sharp mind, good reflexes and a keen knowledge of this complicated offense.

I'm fully expecting the O$U game to be "close" enough that the best chance to win continues to take all of the snaps.

Padilla and Labas aren't ready to take over yet? Of course they aren't. The same guy who is coaching Petras is coaching these two. No wonder they aren't progressing.

Monday and Tuesday are devoted to coach speak practice, and those guys just can't keep a tight lip.
