BF is clearly in a no-win situation today.
His many detractors were going to rip him no matter what he said.

Kirk is ruining BF's career. He demands a sucky offense and his only few good offenses had mobile QBs and 2008 he had 1850 rusher in Shonn Greene. Kirk hates WRs and thinks they are all divas so he de-emphasizes the position. Kirk is the most horrible coach to play WR or QB under. Great coach if you are a OL or TE (or any defensive position) but is a disgrace for offense. I just want him gone at this point. Bring a Brinks truck up to Phil's driveway to get him to be the next coach or stay as DC. But KF either needs to retire or have the humility to hire a real OC and stay out of his way like he does for Phil. All 3 OCs under KF have been underwhelming with BF being a national disgrace. Kirk built a real good program (thanks to defense and ST) but he is destroying what he built. Just wait until December when the exodus happens.

The argument is whether or not SP is the best we have. I think there is strong evidence, based on what AP has done with the small amount of time he's had to show it, that given the same opportunity as SP, would do better. I am well aware that overall our QB room is well below standard, but that doesn't mean that we don't have a guy on the bench with experience who is probably better than the worst QB in America, which is who we are playing. KF has a history of not playing a backup QB who ended up being quite a bit better than the starter.

I'm fine bringing anyone else in to play QB as that will make fans feel better. However, like I originally said "they should transfer because they all suck baLLs. Go get a transfer QB, because what we have in this cupboard is pathetic." I've seen Padilla, gross. I watched Labas in the open practices, and he can't jump Padilla, gross. I'm smart enough to know that Carson May and his Old Dominion offer aren't going to kickstart Iowa's offense, lets be real here.

You thought Padilla was good? Holy sh** our fans have been hypnotized with terrible QB play. Do yourself a favor and go watch another football game around the country. Don't be specific, pick any game and watch the QB. Hell, watch the backup QB when the starter gets injured. In Padilla's 3 games last year as starter, he had a QB rating of 61.7, 76.7, and 15. Yes, he went 3-0, with a whopping 2 TD passes(one of which was a 1 yard pass to Johnson who made the Iowa play of the year breaking those two tackles and running it in for a TD), and yes it would make everyone happy that KF changed things up, but if any of these QBS are our starting QB next year, we will suck on offense again. That is my original point.

Petras is terrible. That is a fact. Padilla was not any better last year. But that was last year. How do you know he hasn’t improved? Why not give him a chance this year? He might provide a spark. He also might not do any better than Petras. But we do know he can’t be worse.

Kirk needs to try something….anything. It has nothing to do with “making the fans feel better.”

What's really absurdly maddening about the "mobile quarterback = backyard football" comment is that BF only has his BT championship ring as a player because directly behind him on the 2004 team was arguably the greatest "backyard" quarterback in Iowa history. Someone who many argue essentially single-handedly propelled Iowa to its unlikely success that year after every RB on the roster (and probably several in the general student body who just happened to play RB in high school) got injured.

So essentially he's saying he would not take Drew Tate on this year's team, and that his mobility would actually be considered a liability. Just think about that for a moment. This guy's single greatest sports accomplishment as a player is due in IMMENSE part to the exploits of exactly the kind of QB he now refers to in a mocking fashion.

Yeah, I'm in favor of bringing him in, not sure how some aren't understanding that. However, NEXT YEAR, I'm in favor of all of them leaving and going with somebody entirely new as a transfer.

The upside would be that you might keep your job next year without it necessarily looking like the biggest case of nepotism in college football. Because we all know he'll be back next year no matter what unless Kirk retires.

Here's the thing - idiot son doesn't seem to realize that his QB has a case of the yips. He may perform in practice, which is familiar, but he falls apart when trying to do it in games. IMO Petras has talent, his high school career in CA shows that. Right now he seems to make relatively simple things for an average Big Ten QB look impossible. If the Ferentz duo were a little smarter they would realize that Petras's problems are psychological and have a performance psychologist working with him. In lieu of that, I think even playing Padilla a few series after he screws up might show Petras that the failure he's been envisioning that's translating during games is not destiny. But right now, I believe Petras is expecting to fail during games and that's what's happening. And the harder he tries, the worse it gets. And the Ferentzes keep trotting him out there expecting different results without any change beforehand.
