What do you think Iowa's biggest advantage is over MSU?

I have some guesses but curious to what you think.

Vice versa, I guess I'd say our biggest advantage is our passing game.

If we have all 3 running backs healthy, that, along with special teams, would be our primary advantage and best chance of winning. Mixing up off tackle zone read runs and counters with stretch running plays... and if we can stick with that, and find some success with our 3 headed rushing attack, which often isn't till second half, it could open up our passing game for CJ, and keep Cook off the field as much as possible. I know, this is all common sense, but that is how we've always been built, and barring turnovers is our only way of beating an excellent Spartan team.

Both teams should have great success throwing the ball, considering the talent at QB and the porousness of the respective pass defenses. This game will be decided on the ground, and Iowa has the better rush D and FAR better rush O. Advantage, Hawks.

Less pressure, everyone outside the state of Iowa thinks this is just a formality and that Iowa doesn't stand a chance. Iowa should be more relaxed as they literally have nothing to lose at this point.

I think Iowa's ability to stop the run will be big. MSU hasn't really been able to run like they would like. Yes, they had success running on OSU yardage wise but OSU had such a pathetic offensive showing that MSU had the ball a ton.

I also think Iowa's balance should be very helpful.

Lastly, I hope Wadley gets most of Daniels carries. This game his home run ability is needed more than Daniels power.

Would love to see them move Wadley around and use some jet sweep fakes with him as misdirection may be badly needed

Lastly, CJB's legs could make the big difference as it has all yr. Hard to defend that. Cook doesn't have that ability

I hope to hell we see Wadly. The holes will be smaller and that kid can run through a door.

This.

Not sure where he's been lately. Seems like "Old Kirk" is reverting back to playing the more experienced guys, no matter what. Wadley is a home run hitter.

I think we match up well both offensively and defensively in the passing game. MSU will bring more pressure than anyone we have faced outside of Pitt. I think Iowa has the advantage in that they allow fewer explosive plays over the course of a season, but MSU hits more explosive plays so it should be an interesting game. The two teams are built pretty much the same. MSU blitzes a lot more and is more experienced and athletic on the DL. Iowa's DBs are a pretty underrated group so I expect this game will come down to whoever can run the ball and control the clock.

Oh, there are so many things the Hawkeye offense COULD do. The potential for the Iowa offense is almost unlimited...except for the obvious factor that KF and GD prefer to run an offense in a phone booth. I said before the season started, and you could look it up, that given the schedule and CJ in charge, Iowa had a great shot at 12-0--except for the albatross of the offensive coaching.

Well, this game shapes up much the same way. The talent and potential are there, but how will KF and GD deploy it? That's the thing that makes me the most nervous about this game. An imaginative, aggressive Iowa offense will outscore the Spartans. Period. But the tendency to get conservative isn't likely to work on Saturday.

I agree with those who call for misdirection and plenty of Wadley. Intelligent use of Mitchell would help, too. Along with Canzeri and Daniels, Iowa has the potential to explode.

And, of course, I'm hoping for CJ to be healthy enough and have time enough to hit some deep routes to Tevaun and some TEs up the seam.

I fear Iowa's conservative inclinations more than I fear the MSU defense, not that the Spartan D isn't solid, but the Hawkeyes have the weapons. I just hope the coaches use them all and use them well.

Offense and defense. Iowa scores more points per game and holds opponents to fewer points. Also, turnover margin, Iowa is 5th in the nation in turnover margin.

MAGIC.....................

It's been a magical year. If that genie can just keep it rolling.

I think Iowa is a unit that is extremely cohesive mentally and through that their team philosophy excels and their chemistry is undaunted.

An undefeated -3.5 underdog. What's not to like?

You know what I mean Rodney? " Yeah Iowa gets no respect! "

Go Hawks!

He hurt his ankle a few weeks back

Nope.

That was Indiana. He was declared "fine" by Kirk after the game. He had 4 carries against Purdue, but none in either the Minnesota or Nebraska games. He has been on the depth chart every week, and when Kirk discusses injuries, never mentions Wadley.

I was watching the talking heads on BTN this morning. They said that Michigan State has a big advantage because they have been to Indianapolis twice before. They said Iowa would be in awe when they walk into the building and looking up at the ceiling. Riiiiight, like an Iowa farmer in New York City looking up at the skyscrapers. You can't make this shite up. Anyway, Iowa will not even walk around or tour the building when they first arrive.

Kirk should have the players bring a tape measure and count out the length of the field like in Hoosiers.

I think we have an advantage if we do not see any old Kirk. If we do we're in for a long day.

MSU arrogance vs Iowa team cohesiveness and humbleness

MSU's default setting of doing dumb things in big games vs Iowa's thinking

Iowa's QB's ability to run...when needed

MSU has better talent and "should" win...which is also an Iowa advantage.

"...doing dumb things..." like winning them? Not sure what you mean but it would seem they have no problem keeping their lunches down during crucial times.
It should be a great game and if it weren't for Dantonio I'd have little problem with them representing the conference in the playoffs if it can't be us.

They do have a history of "thug play"...those things tend to sprout up at the wrong time...depending on which side of the fence you are sitting...I have confidence in MSU...that they won't disappoint... Nebraska didn't let me down...stupid plays times about 5...go home, lick your wounds...blame the officiating...dream about next year.

MSU is the opposite of arrogant.

Arrogance resides in Columbus and Ann Arbor.

I do like MSU better than OSU or MICH...but their thug play is the wild card...

May the best team win...at leasat OSU and MICH are on the outside looking in!

I will say Special teams cold be key. I think we have a solid kicker in Koehn who can hit anything from 30-57yds with ease.

Our punter/coverage team have been doing a good job this year as well.

If Iowa can get a Special teams score (blocked punt, kick/punt return). That would be HUGE. I am thinking Special teams will decide this game.

I share the same sentiment as others. I do not have a beef with MSU ( I HATE UM and OSU). Thank god their not playing. Now some other Big Ten teams will get some exposure! May the best team win and pray for no injuries.

I was concerned about getting off the punt, several times, vs Nebraska? I am hoping we have that fixed...
