What does Patrick bring?

My question is why is the guy unattended in the first place? Is/Was he PM’s responsibility in the first place? If so why the hell is he wide open under the basket while PM is at the free throw line looking the wrong way from where the ball is at before the entry pass down low?

It was a pick and roll. Krikke’s man screened PMac and both went out to PMac’s guy with the ball at the top of the key. Miscommunication between PMac and Krikke.

It was actually a pretty smart play on Patrick’s behalf as he was caught on a switch. The foul occurred well before the shot attempt and should have never been an And 1. Bad break / poor officiating, take your pick. We can agree to disagree all day long on that play. There was no “playing defense” at that point. It was either an easy two or give a cheap foul.

His first foul of the game was horrible defense on his part. He got F’d on the intentional one though.

that is pretty silly take--any time there is a switch and mismatch, automatically foul...at 6'9 PMAC has the size to guard on the switch and at least be vertical vs the opposing center. PMAC didn't want any part of guarding a post player, so he quit and intentionally fouled. CMAC would have bodied the guy and given his best effort. It isn't PMAC fault he's been babied and given special treatment his entire career and developed into a guy that doesn't play defense. It is on Fran.

And to think he was coming off the bench ahead of a really good player and starting ahead of another one. I’m so tired of nepotism at UI. Thank God it will be all over with after this bball season.
Does Pat have a covid year ? I know he said he was done after this year ,but I wouldn't be surprised if he came back.

I've stood up for PMAC in the past when some here have lobbed personal attacks, such as calling him disgusting names. But I will also say that IMO PMAC should not be starting and should not be playing much. I know that some of rebounding is luck; sometimes that ball just lands in your lap. But over the course of 12 games and 26 minutes per game having only one offensive rebound is inexcusable. And having only 3 fouls just shows how he lacks aggressiveness defensively. I'd bring him off the bench and if he didn't attack the glass and get after it defensively, I'd pull him immediately. I'd make it clear it's nothing personal; just playing the guys who are gonna bring it.
This would be good coaching. Not sure if Fran is actually coaching his kids, Margret is. She sets the tone & tells Fran how many minutes Paddy gets to play.

He won't be back
He and Perkins have both publicly said they won't utilize covid year. They may have been directed to say this as Fran is still recruiting and them stating they're coming back could effect recruits. IDK, probably not. But if Perkins is offered a good NIL, he could come back.

Regarding this teams defense, I wish Fran would full court press 100% of the time. Aggressive defense, Patrick instructed to trap all over the floor. Speed the other team up & make them play at a pace that makes them uncomfortable. Also would not allow Patrick to be passive, force him to be aggressive. If he gets beat, instruct him to sprint to the paint & rebound.

Where did anyone say that anytime there’s a switch or mismatch to foul immediately? We’re talking about one specific play, not generalities. For a guy with three fouls on the entire season, clearly that’s not happening. But you’re doing what you always do, which is arguing for the sake of arguing and taking things well out of context.

Speaking of CMac, a guy who gave the most intentional fouls on the floor in much better spots than PMac was on this particular play, really shows how much you know. How many times did we see Connor give the foul on the floor when it was a one on one fast break?

I've never understood this about him. Half ass press and play 10 guys. Shit or get off the pot.

From the few games I’ve seen this year, he’ll make some occasional shots, but he mostly just seems to prance around with his mouth open.
I know assuming makes an ass out of you and me but I have to think theres some medications he takes.
But yes i agree, 2-3 mins into a game if they get a close up of him he just looks flat out exhausted. He looks like he gained weight this season but not good weight in my opinion. Looks more bloated or water weighty to me.
I do think Pat can be effective coming off the bench in 3-5 min spurts
