What is a piece of "improved" technology that you think is actually worse and makes life more annoying?

Key fobs. I want a real key. Too easy to leave in a pocket coat or go through the wash. 300 to fix. My VW had a switch blade like key. That was the best…
I agree that car makers should give you the option of having regular keys instead of having to pay so much money for a OEM fob. But you can get them cheaper online and have certain locksmiths program them or program them yourself for less money. But I would like to have a Fob with regular key access as a backup and I bet a lot of people who dont have a ton of money agree. Now this is not the worst of the new tech

You don't have to switch inputs to choose a different app with other services either.
When I had Dish Network Satellite I used to have to choose a different source (input) to watch streaming apps on Roku. Maybe there was an easier way, but that's how I always did it.

One of the few areas where digital technology has been rejected is electric guitars. From the pickups, to the cables, thru the pedals, and out the amp, it's all old school analog and vacuum tubes. For 50 years transistors and digital effects and modelers have failed to replace the almost 80 year old electric guitar setup.

Self driving cars-humans can kill themselves just as efficiently by driving in the old fashion.
I agree with this as of now, I cant imagine self-driving semi-trailer trucks in windy conditions let alone slick or icy roads.

I mean some of these companies do not want to pay a driver to be in the cab at all

That's one of the problems with using old satellite technology. Current technology allows you to stream everything from a smart TV or device like Roku/Fire Stick.

Why? What gives you more confidence about a human driver in bad conditions than automated? Particularly when you factor in possible impairments. This is a situation where I would be more confident in automation.

Well until last year my internet speed wasn't fast enough to support streaming television. Finally in October of 2023, I was able to connect to fiber optic internet.

This, specifically as it relates to push-button start. If something happened to the fob on my Nissan I wouldn't be able to use the physical key to turn the damn thing on, because you pop off the plastic cover over where the ignition should be and there's just...nothing. It's just empty.
I've rented cars where the fob itself is used as the key in case the fob doesn't work. You pop off the push button cap and physically stick the fob in and and turn it to the right to start it. Might be the same with yours. In the pic below, the part with the panic button is what goes into the slot. There is also a backup metal key that slides out at the bottom.

+1 auto start/stop. My daughters mini has this - and does have a button to disable but it defaults to on. Per dealership, it has to default to on to meet some “green” requirement.

I’ll add:
So many passwords. I’d be locked out of so many things if keychain/google password thing didn’t autofill them.

+

2 factor authentication being mandatory for some things. Every. Time.
I have so many damn passwords that (when I can't simply use my thumbprint) I kinda prefer the 2 factor id's instead of looking it up, and they just text you a code and it automatically pastes into the window.

12 hours? When we go on vacation I unplug for the whole week. Throw the phone in the safe and I'm out. Nothing better then sitting by a pool in the Caribbean with no technology to bother me reading a book andsipping on a cocktail.

I hate almost all of it, TV pisses me off the most. Exit this platform to sign into this platform to watch one show then exit that one to sign into another and on and on.. ugh.
When I "unplug" (if you can call it that), I'll keep my phone on me, but only for weather, maps, and emergencies when out hiking, camping, or fishing. If I'm lounging with a cocktail or 3, phone stays in room or vehicle, turned off.

Every vehicle I've owned has a button to turn it off, Jeep, BWM, Mercedes, GMC Canyon. I can't believe there is a vehicle out there that doesn't have it.
kind of what I was thinking. Although I also can't believe someone could not find it. Unless they mean permanently.

I don’t like that phones are getting bigger. For a long time phones were getting smaller, and smaller is less obtrusive to carry around. I want a tiny phone to carry with me, and a tablet for at home.

My nominee is the Apple TV remote. In fact, the specific complaint I have is a problem with quite a few new device remotes/interfaces.

It is the goddam super-sensitivity.

Back in the day, to change a channel or turn off power or switch inputs, you had to PUSH DOWN a button with intent.

Now, my friggin' cat jumps on the couch a few inches from where the Apple remote is and BAM instead of watching the exciting end of a basketball game, it has switched to the PS5 input or put on the stupid HGTV channel my wife was watching previously. You breathe on the damn thing and it is activated. I hate this. Same with the insanely sensitive screens these days - just this morning when I reached into my pocket to get my phone out at the grocery store, I opened the damn garage door back at my house because I forgot to shut the myQ app.

And to cut the smartasses off at the pass, I know:

I HATE being held captive to the dreaded misplaced remote. There oughtta be a set of buttons you can mash to make things work.
Wow. I feel better getting that out.
