What team do you not want Iowa to play in the tourney?

Let’s assume that’s Iowa’s seed will be in the 4-7 range. Name a team in the first or second round you would prefer to avoid if possible.

For example, let’s say Iowa finishes strong and gets a 4 seed. SFA as a 13 would scare me because of their ability to shoot the 3. A second round opponent of BYU, 5 seed, would scare me for the same reason.

Avoids:
1st Round:
Providence - I don't know what to make of this team, they've played so much better in the 2nd half of the season, I'm not sure how good they are, but I don't think I'd want to find out in a 1-and-done tournament.

Liberty - It seems that teams that slow down the pace generally get the upper hand compared to teams that like to run in tournament play. Liberty fits that mold.

UCLA - Same reasoning as Providence.

2nd Round:
Florida St. - very athletic and balanced team, could give us fits on both ends even with Garza.

Creighton - If our defense struggles against middling teams, I'm not confident we could outscore the Jays.

BYU - Same reason as Creighton, plus they've looked a lot better with Childs in the lineup. Probably will be under-seeded because of his absence.

LOL....Creighton. You realize they play a 5 guard lineup and have 1 center that comes off the bench. I'd take that matchup all day long with Garza and Kriener plus Weeze, Fredrick, Connor, and Toussaint on a neutral court. Hell, I'd take Dayton and Toppin on a neutral court with Iowa's line up.
Do you want Garza having to defend a guard on the perimeter for the entire game? Or would you prefer we play zone that allows for more spot up three point shots against a strong shooting team?

They have the ability to can a ton of 3s. Garza would feast, but we haven’t exactly always played lock down perimeter D this year.

Good call on UNI but I think they may creep all the way up to the 8/9 game.

For the first round, I want to avoid teams that are coming in red hot. Notably UCLA, Providence, and Texas (yes I know they got whipped by ISU but still).

If we get a 5 seed, I’d like to avoid the play in game winner. I think last year was the first time at least one play-in 12 didn’t win their 5 seed matchup.

And yes I know it’s the First Four and not a play in game.

I don't want to play a team with a lot of length at multiple positions. DePaul seemed long when we played, Rutgers last year was long and those games were tough. I think Iowa is successful when we create mismatches but if teams are long and able to switch we have problems. Earlier comments mention not wanting to play teams that slow it down, I think the diversity of teams in the Big ten make us prepared for many different styles and we've proven to win against slow tempo teams like Wisconsin.

As long as we're not sent to Greensboro, staring Duke in the face in the 2nd round, I will consider our placement fair. Right now they're looking like a #3 and we're looking like a #6, so I'll be on pins and needles next Sunday. Has that team ever actually had to take an airplane to their 1st-2nd round site?

No. And they won’t this year if they are a 3.....

Virginia. While they have a bunch of warts, they are two years removed from a championship. Tough defensively.

Gosh, the teams that concern me are in the BIG and UNI. Due to scheduling, I don't expect to see any of them until the sweet 16.

Nobody.

Iowa > everyone

In all honesty, UNI and the committee would have no problem doing it. I don't think they are better than us but I wouldn't be thrilled to see Iowa have to deal with that in round 1.

Lol at all of the UNI postings.

Most posters have been saying all year that Iowa is so superior to UNI & now the Panthers are most posters biggest fear.

Not Purdue.
